December 6, 2017 marks the first year anniversary of the line I pledged for my co-ed Fraternity Alpha Psi Lambda. It was a tough & long process, but it brings me so much joy to know I was able to show my "kids" what FAMILIA + Greek Life is about & how we can advocate for our Latino Community ❤️ This is probably the only part I miss about college Spoiler: !!!! If you don't know about Greek Life in US and are wondering what the names in quotes are or why there are numbers: We get official nicknames and numbers once we become official members of the organization. In this particular scenario, we get nicknames in Spanish because we are Latino based. I'm proud AF of being a member of Apsi for almost 3 years now.
I GOT THE CALL. I GOT ACCEPTED TO A U.S. MEDICAL SCHOOL! Seriously, what an incredible, amazing feeling. It's exhilarating. And to compound that feeling? I got the acceptance call while interviewing for another medical school ranked top [removed for privacy]. It took all my effort not to scream when I got the call, but I definitely was shaking. The other applicants must've thought I was on something when I returned to the office. 7 years. Jesus. It took me 7 years after high school to finally get in. It still feels unreal. It's an insanely competitive process, and a humbling one. I'm still waiting for imposter syndrome to hit me. That'll come when it comes. I'll be 30 by the time I get my MD degree, and my friends in college will already be in residency and have a family, and maybe - just maybe - the superstars who entered young at 22 will have finished residency & fellowship and even be attending physicians, and I still get this nagging feeling in the back of my brain that I'm running far, far behind in this marathon. But for now, at this brief instance in time, I'm going to savor this moment of happiness and do absolutely, positively nothing for a solid week. I still got a deadlift PR waiting for me, and I got a good feeling I'm gonna break it tonight.
I've found an abandoned kitty on the street today on my way back home from work .. (WHO ABANDONS THEIR PETS ?!?!) After getting scared and running away from one another, hissing at each other, back and forth meowing, and me jumping on the couch and down and suddenly sprinting to various spaces in my apartment and her just watching me with shock .. We have finally declared truce ! Now we're gonna be best friends ! (now off to buying cat goodies ) NAME .. oh sorry .. IGN SUGGESTIONS PLEASE !
It was a couple months ago, but I got a new job that pays way better and is a lot less stressful than my old job. So I got that going for me!
I had applied for a state fund for my research and finally got the answer this morning! They granted me with £300k for the next 5 years + £100k as the initial research fund ! I've never been more excited about anything in my life ! Even though it's not the full £500k I've applied for, I'll take it as the state likes to cut the budget of everything to the minimum ... So happy to be able to write my own research paper and publish it !! (in 5 years) This also means I might not have time to play maple as I'll be working around 80-90 hours per week .. 2018 couldn't have started better ! If only I could find a suitable assistant that would give up his/her life with me for the next 5 years ... (when I got to work this morning, I found an unopened bottle of champagne on my desk with a congratulations note from my boss time to get drunk at work as well ! )
Just got engaged with a wonderful woman I met of this game. It's weird how life works, but I will always trust the path God laid out for me.
