Hi and welcome to my guide! In this guide I'll be giving all of my best tips and tricks for being a successful Corsair at HT. By my 4th HT I was only losing my ship 0-1 time per run so hopefully this can help you to do the same! This guide is geared specifically towards Corsairs so there will be some info left out that isn't relevant to the Corsair class. A lot of the information I provide will make a lot more sense with experience rather than thinking about it here so go give Horntail a shot! What is a Corsair's role during Horntail? A Corsair should be seen as one of the top tier DPS classes even in a boss as challenging as this. Once mastered, you will be a force to be reckoned with. While not necessarily always on top, you are someone who is extremely valuable to finishing your run in a timely manner. You are your party's savior if something happens to go wrong with your SE since you aren't reliant on it like your Night Lord rivals. Preheads: These two monsters are by far the easiest parts for you to shine as a Corsair. They attack slowly and all of their attacks are easy to dodge General information/tips: - You are safe to attack as long as the horn doesn't light up. When this happens it means that one of the attacks are starting. - Weapon cancels last for 40 seconds so if you have level 1 in Wrath of the Octopi, your octopus will last for 35 seconds. As soon as weapon cancel starts you can use the skill and you'll know to start attacking again once you see this message in your chatbox: A: This is the first part of Horntail that you'll ever fight and it it by far the easiest part of the entire battle. This head has two attacks. Spoiler: Attack #1 - This attack hits the entire map and is extremely easy to dismount from. - All you have to do is dismount right before the charge up animation finishes and you're good to go! Charging up Attacking Spoiler: Attack #2 - This attack doesn't his the entire map and is extremely easy to dismount from. - When Horntail's head lowers and lights up like this it will be using its icicle attack. You can see exactly where they're going to hit (They also hit quite a bit around it) and sometimes you don't even have to bother dismounting! I happen to be standing in a safe area between two of the targeted locations B: This is the second part of Horntail that you will encounter and is a bit more annoying than the first head! This head has two attacks. Spoiler: Attack #1 - This attack hits the entire map and is extremely easy to dismount from. - All you have to do is dismount right before the charge up animation finishes and you're good to go! - This attack is exactly the same as the first head's attack Charging up Attacking Spoiler: Attack #2 - This attack hits most of the map randomly and marks where it's going to happen but you can't see this from a Corsair's perspective - This attack doesn't always fire off at the same time so you should always dismount near immediately and start to use Rapid Fire until the attack happens Dismount here and continue attacking after the lightning strikes(Missed getting a photo of this but it's obvious) Main Body: The real battle. everything before this was child's play. This is challenging and is what makes or breaks Corsairs. General information/tips: - Don't get overwhelmed. It seems really hard at first but once you get into the rhythm and gain some experience it's not quite as scary as it seems. - If you ever find yourself getting hit by a bunch of attacks while on your boat, just dismount and use Rapid Fire for a few seconds until you get your bearings back. Those couple seconds make more of a difference than you might imagine. - If there's ever a time when you're doing nothing, use Rapid Fire. This is relevant because sometimes you need to dismount from one attack but can't get back on your boat because another attack is coming. Make use of every second to increase your damage output. - Invincibility frames are amazing! Whether an attack hits or misses, you cannot be damaged again for a short period of time. This is so useful for us because it often allows us to ignore the next coming attack! - There are 8 different body parts but you only ever need to watch the 3 heads. Watching the arm can also be useful in certain situations but I'll go into that later! - Minimize your chatbox. - Only Attack the Leg/Tail when both A and B have used Weapon Cancel at the same time. You're complete garbage down here. - You are dismounted as soon as you press your Battleship button. After you're technically dismounted there is still a visual animation for your ship going away. - Do yourself a favor and use your attack potions when you're dismounted. Head A: This is the first part of the main body you should be attacking and will by far be the worst part of your HT experience because you'll have to deal with watching 3 different heads with different attacks and delays before damage all at the same time. If it ever uses weapon cancel just jump and use your Homing Beacon on Head B! This head has only one attack. Spoiler: Area to stand in You will want to stand in this area to avoid getting hit by the rock on the left and the wing on the right Spoiler: Head A attack - Dismount as soon as Head A lowers. - This attack can hit anywhere but doesn't hit the entire map and you can't react fast enough once this icicle attack has begun. Head animation Head B: This will almost definitely be the last head that you kill. This head has two attacks that are generally very easy to dodge. Spoiler: Attack #1 - This attack has a very long animation and is easy to dismount from - This map can hit the entire map but doesn't always so you generally want to dismount, use and use Rapid Fire for a second while watching for the ground animation assuming that you don't have invincibility frames. - You have a small window of time to dodge this attack after seeing the animation on the ground around you. - The ground animation starts soon after Head B is back in resting position. Head animation Ground animation after head B is idle once again Spoiler: Attack #2 - This attack has a long animation and is easy to dismount from - This attack always hits the entire map Charging up the attack Head C: This will be the head that you target after Head A dies. It has two attacks, one annoying and one easy to dodge. This is when it can be good to watch the hand as well because you don't have to reposition yourself every time if nothing is attacking you! Spoiler: Hand Information Purple animation = Hand will hit you for 1 damage Spoiler: Area to stand in You want to stay to the left of this red line to avoid being hit by the rock! Spoiler: Attack #1 - This attack is basically just attack 1 from the preheads but without the insane knockback - This attack hits the entire map - You can fire a couple battleship cannons before you need to dismount because it has a decent delay between the head animation starting and when you receive damage Perspective from Head A Perspective from Head C Charge Head animation Spoiler: Attack #2 - This attack is the same as Prehead B's lightning attack - Dismount almost immediately after you see Head C lower its head from at both Head A and C - This attack hits most of the map randomly and marks where it's going to happen but you can't see this from a Corsair's perspective - This attack doesn't always fire off at the same time so you should always dismount near immediately and start to use Rapid Fire until the lightning attack happens Head animation Short conclusion I'm just a fairly new Corsair but I feel as though I have a decent grasp of HT. Let me know if anything is wrong or if I can add something else! Hope this has helped someone.
10/10 Some trick for the first prehead : if you put a mule (or bish if you run with no mules for some reason , 2k18 ht meme) at the bottom , the 1/1 hit (attack #2 on this guide) will focus on the bottom and wont hit the platform you attack on ! Also something about 2nd prehead attack #2 and Head C attack #2 , which is basically the same attack : Like you mentioned , there are 2 types of attacks , one does 5k ish dmg (get get up to 7k from head C if it's buffed) which happens right after the animation , and one attack does 1/1 and happens 2-3 seconds after the animation , for high level corsairs (190+) I find it better to ignore the first type and only dismount before the 1/1 attack for a few reasons : 1. Sometimes when you dismount right away and it uses the 1/1 attack you lose a few canon shots for nothing - less dps. 2. As a high level corsair , your ship has a lot of HP so even if it uses the faster attack and you tank it a few times , its stil possible to finish a run without breaking your ship , also at this level your dismounting skills should be pretty good , so tanking a few hits shouldn't be a problem if you successfully dismount for the rest of the run. 3 . As a high level corsair your avoid is not too bad and even if it uses the faster attack , there's a good chance of getting a miss instead.
FOKK, Why am I not the 1st one to like this awesomeness Attack #2 Head C has error, can you fix it. Thanksss
Now that you mention it, I can't see how I didn't make the connection lol, I did notice that sometimes the 1/1 wasn't hitting the top at all. I figured there would be a point when attacking rather than dodging a certain attack would be more beneficial, I'll have to try that next time rather than using my leftover ship hp to be lazy during head B I can't find an error. What do I need to fix?
tbh, I think ... there are some points which might make your DPS much lower than what I expect you can have. You can do it much better if you improve some skills mentioned in your article. It's great for an unexperienced sair, but not for an experienced one. The most important point is: will there be able to have a DPS calculator for sair? I have no proof to obtain a conclusion about which strategy is the best. The only thing I know is: the best method depends on different person. You might feel ridiculous if you know how I do HT, lol. Appreciate your effort on this article. It makes every sair know much more about HT.
I wish that an accurate DPS calc were possibly but it all depends so much on the skill level of the individual . My goal here is to provide enough information to make Corsairs feel less discouraged to keep going after trying HT since it is often their breaking point. How do you do HT ?
I check lots of things during the whole run: 1. is there anyone on the ground? 2. what actions will B and C do next? 3. will there be ice crystal on my mushroom hat? 4. when will my invincible state end? 5. when will the rock drop? 6. when will the hand hit me? 7. where am I standing? btw, my hp is about 18.5k. That hp makes me able to do all above in a run. That's how I maximize my dps.
Did 1 attack make a big difference if you are on you ship? Since the 1 attack from hand i believed its like 30% less mp
Your ship takes however much damage you take. If you're hit for 1 damage while you're on your ship then it takes 1 damage. The hands are pretty useful because sometimes if you mess up, the hand will hit you instead of something else.
I think this guide include the animation for 1/1 attack but it didn't mention specifically. Can any experience Saira point out to me which animation is the 1/1 animation? Thanks!
