The market economy in Royals is going wrong

Discussion in 'Closed' started by Prof_Don, Mar 31, 2018.

?

Should AP Reset be purchasable through mesos and NX at the same time?

  1. Yes, it should be set at a fixed price by mesos.

  2. No, market decides all.

  3. It should be even more obtainable in some other way.

Those definitely make things harder too. I'm not sure if those choices are even intentional or if it's a side effect they still haven't gotten to (spawn rates and PQ lower exp). I'm fine with the FM button gone, but I already have my hs mule in Temple of Time and I can't find 1 person training by their self.

I have a question related to this - has anyone ever brought up the idea of having an item that permanently increases your HP (amount is based on jobs, similar to AP resets) perhaps sold by Albert or something. Obviously, this should cost a lot more than what AP resets cost (maybe double or triple), so people who make a new char would save money, but people who did not wash or washed too late still have a chance to get a desirable HP. This would allow many players to enjoy the content without worrying about HP washing, and still obtain any amount of HP they desire as long as they put in extra effort (mesos).

Yes there is, but it was rejected by administration, because it would "make HP washed characters more prevalent" and promote "the fallacy that HP washing is a requirement to do certain things":

Yes me and others proposed this. This would not put the old hp washers in vain and still allow those late to the party to hp wash, but nothing came of that idea.

That was their idea? First hp washing was a "Luxury for the rich" And that idea was rejected, because that luxuy shouldn't be available to those with wealth?

It's hard not to focus on bossing when that's literally all there is to do in this game after level 120. Sure you can.. APQ? or sell leech? or afk in FM and talk to people? But the real meat and potatoes of this server is bossing, because 135-200 takes way more time and effort than 1-135. As I have mentioned in previous threads, I think that's an inevitable problem with this version of Maplestory if the experience rates are increased, because the majority of content is for 1-120. At this version of maplestory, Nexon was still adding end game content and even 4th job was fairly new.

As far as HP washing being required or not, I don't understand what point you're trying to make is. Is it about the technicality? If so, let me rephrase. HP washing feels like it's mandatory to make a good character on this server. I have experience doing HT, and from my experience I would not want to run with somebody who did not HP wash. They are more likely to die, slow down the run, or even fail the run. It doesn't even matter how skilled they are, when HP washing is just a binary check to see if you can survive or not.

It doesn't have to be like this. If washing didn't exist, bossing would be very hard, like in GMS. But, since nobody could wash, everybody would be just as vulnerable and people would adopt strategies around this. Maybe melee classes and archmages would be more balanced as attackers considering they have good survivability, and we wouldn't have this stale NL meta that exists in Royals. The point I'm trying to make is, while HP washing is not technically required, it feels like a requirement because otherwise nobody will want to boss with you, and that's what really matters here.

I am so sick of hearing complaints about how unfair HP Washing is and how it dictates what people have to play and how they have to spend their time. NOBODY IS FORCING YOU TO HP WASH and our community is more than supportive of those who chose not to. Just download the client, create the character of your choice, and get to enjoying the game and community! If you refuse that, and decide that YOUR FIRST CHARACTER EVER MUST BE ON PAR W/ TOP 5% OF THE COMMUNITY BOSSERS and you don't want to put countless days into trying your luck at gacha, merching, and selling leech like they did, then you are out of luck ^_^' ? The beauty of this game, is that the end game ceiling is so high! I understand that can be intimidating to new players who have a endgame mindset, but they have CRAZY BOOSTED XP + DROP RATES and a supportive community to back them. The top players in our community aren't elitist; most of them have spent hours making beautiful guides for our forums and answering COUNTLESS QUESTIONS to the same noobs who can't absorb any information and complain about everything. If you TRULY BELIEVE that washing is unfair and you cannot stand playing in this ecosystem, there are other private servers for you to try. New player aren't entitled to search the forums for a whole 5 minutes without having any real experience in our game economy and then decide it's best we should completely overhaul the entire game, its mechanics, and the system in which our economy is based.

My advice? Relax, log in, create your character, and enjoy!

The only part of HP washing I think is unfair is that people don't find out it even exists until an arbitrary point. You could be lvl 70+ before you learn about it. Then if you're unlucky enough to have chosen archer, gunslinger, etc. then you're faced with a difficult decision to either restart or keep going knowing fully well that you will have difficulties in the late game.

This doesn't make sense. You want to make life easier for beginners but you want to nerf their income from AP resets. Or are you just trying to make your own life easier ~f8

Even if AP resets were made artificially cheaper and WS/CS rates were increased, time spent trying to make an end-game attacker here is probably going to be the same still as leech prices will drop too.

The amount of time I need to spend selling leech to wash my NL has not changed that much since the implementation of new source. AP resets are more expensive but so is the leech I'm selling. You can argue that the new source has not been perfect because some PQs are now less inviting but I don't think the new source has actually collapsed the economy.

Hp washing is an abuse of a bug that was decided to stay part of the game. Since so many people want to be leeched and hp wash it's pretty clear most people don't want to go into end game with 4k hp when they can hit 15k+ and that creates desolation in other maps which draws even more people to be leeched and hp wash.

Is hp washing unfair? I don't think so. Is it awkward, complicated and hurts people that find out about it later and can't hit the hp they want? Yes.

The PQ nerfs were intentional, they thought a nerf to LMPQ would encourage people to do the other PQs but all it encouraged was leeching. Even with the nerf OPQ still gives worse exp than LMPQ so there's really no reason to do it.
As for the WS spawn rate it's simply because they changed the spawn rates in a lot of maps to the original GMS spawn. Though it's been a year and they didn't bother to change the spawn (while other maps did get a buff) so it's pretty intentional too I guess.
And even if you have a HS mule there it's troublesome to cc every time or you'd leech exp. You could go into the Longue and go back to the map but now that got fixed too...
And I think the spawn in ToT got nerfed a bit as well.

Ok Muff, here's the thing. I'm not saying we all should aim for 30k NL. But the sad truth is, a NL without washing is like eating a slice of bread without butter. Nostalgia server should be harder otherwise it's not nostalgic at all but maybe we have gone too far from our starting point. Higher APR price does benefit newcomers in a certain way, however, if you look at the long run, this is unsustainable. With less NX being produced, when those newcomers finally become decently-funded players and they realize "Crap, even though I'm decently-funded, I can't even afford hp-washing to hit 9.8k hp." Like I said, APR is the hard currency in Royals, it doesn't make any sense to keep it at such a high price since the meso is kept at 4× permanently. The inflation will definitely kill people's interest just like what happened in those high inflation rate countries around the world. People work hard and then realize that they can't afford shit.

Also, there might a misunderstanding, I'm sorry if my use of words didn't express what I'm trying to say (English is not my native language LOL). I never said we should make ws/cs droppable. I just want to increase the chance of getting es/cs from gaching or whatever. Like i said in the thread, this also benefits the newcomers most while it moderately increases the potential of getting more godly equips. Thus more people could enjoy the beauty of old maple. How come is this idea even a complaint?

There's no economic theory so far that justifies that market itself can operate perfectly well without any intervention under any situation. This also applies to Royals where the market is one of the most important elements of all time. Since the new source has changed something, we should do something different as well.

I don't really see the point of arguing for a level-playing field for both the new and the old. This is MapleStory for goodness' sake, not some strategy or tactical game where all players must start off on equal footing. In MapleStory, you simply put in the time and effort and you reap what you sow. This is how the game is and will be.

This thread is about the HP washing AP reset, so i think of a suggestion:
If you guys don't want the price to go down but still want more benefit from hp reset, why not increase the amount of HP we get from a single AP reset???

You got a point here. The expectation has been raised. But it also reminds me of something that I initially wanted to include. Royals is gradually becoming a private server for those who spent several years playing it and who invested tons of time and energy back in the old days. If a newcomer can't stand the endless leeching and the old way those pro players did several years ago, sorry he can't be accepted because he is not "pro" enough. The problem is that in order to optimize the profits from every boss run, the threshold has been raised simultaneously with the increment of the top bar. Apart from that, the player base has shrunk which means you either catch up with them or you get denied and can't even find a party to do a boss run with. This is also a setback every nostalgia server can't get rid of because there's no major update to meet the higher demand of those pro players (the introduction of toad is a good try though) so the only thing they can do is to raise the threshold of endgame bossing, which makes this game become a boring offline grinding and leeching factory.

Don't underestimate the power of the top-tier players who can easily take over the economy because they have the most efficient money-printing machine in hands: doing endgame boss runs. This is also a very interesting economic issue here. People with a vested interest don't want to make any changes since it might destroy the hierarchical structure of the system. BUT this effect doesn't matter that much if there are enough People with a vested interest. However, that is not the case anymore at least after the new source. It will be dangerous for Royals if the top-tier productivity(say endgame boss run) is monopolized by only a small group of people. These people can easily get excess profits by raising the price of those exclusive goods which by no means a normal player could possibly obtain. This system is not sustainable. If no more new players would come in and take over the fundamental grinding(or let's just say working) this hierarchical structure will collapse in any second. Prices will drop sharply and more people will quit the market.

So my core concept is providing those newcomers with a more feasible way(It should be hard of course but maybe not that much) to fully unlock every single fun element of old maple, rather than sticking to leeching and buying everything from top-tier players.

This is not a complaint, I used to do all boss runs with my buddies and guildies and devote tons of energy into this game, now that almost all of my buddies are gone, I just feel like Royals shouldn't be a hardcore game. It is the light-hearted vibe of this game that actually attracts us most.

"disappear for a year and when you return you’ll never have to worry about affording them again."

LOL that's exactly what I thought 2 years ago when I was a newcomer. What about now with the inflation? Are you sure you can afford shit?
