Remove likes from ban appeals

That's the only one I could find on demand, I'm on my phone. But it does happen.

 

If we're going to complain about likes in one context, let's extend that and do something about people who have multiple forum accounts to like their own posts.

 

Multiple forum accounts aren't allowed so if you are aware of any specific cases please let us know and we'll merge them.

I personally would much rather likes were entirely removed the ban appeal section than how it is currently for the reasons @Martin has brought up. I do think what @Evan makes alot of sense but this seems alot more complicated to implement. Probably something to bring up with Karvan and Chok.

 

I agree with Martin. I also agree with Evan's sentinent. Likes aren't needed in Ban Appeals, really at all. If you want to show support for a player who may be wrongly banned, I support that as well, but it can also be done via PM to a staff member, since I think splitting the feature may be a logistical nightmare.
When I first came here I was very surprised to see the likes feature at all, but now I can't help but to click it when I see a clever post or something submitted that's quite impressive (like in the Accomplishments thread).

 

Is this topic being discussed or handled in any way? Though there has been a few staff posts in this thread, there doesn't seem to an official staff response anywhere, so I wanna ask if anything is happening with this suggestion or if it has been forgotten.

 

While I do feel staffs do sometimes try to say things which makes them look "cool", personally I couldn't care less as imo they are just likes, just like numbers on social media.

However, what's scary is that staffs may feel proud of themselves by what they have said or how they said it which ultimately may feed to their ego. I believe removing them would do more good than harm since they serve no useful purpose anyway. Removing the like system entirely would also be a great idea, imo.

i don't know why the fact that a forum has a like function in a ban appeals section made you so "scared". or as you said it "what's scary is that staffs may feel proud of themselves"
if i treat someone in professional manner and get acknowledged i'd feel honored and encouraged to keep doing so. but its not the point here
the point is they just doing their jobs, and you can clearly see that they always answer and treat people ban appeals in professional manner and trying their best to help and provide people a solution or a clear answer.

I didn't said that the amount of likes they get will make them power hungry and abusive. I don't think you understood what I meant.

It will be scary if staffs develop an ego. As the amount of likes they gain could mean that they are accepted by the community and inevitably it would plant a sense of pride in them. And what happens when someone has too much pride? It will be harder for them to admit their mistakes, change or even accept what others are saying - characteristics of someone with an ego. Also, it may make them feel superior than others.


I am sorry if you feel so disturbed by my input in this thread. However, I do feel that no matter how absurd someone's opinion may be, he should be allowed to express it. By that notion, even if I did say what you meant (likes making staff power hungry and abusive), I should be allowed to have that opinion since it's my criticisms and opinions.

Also, how ironic it is to say that a feedback can't be constructive if you start to attack someone because of the opinion they hold.
