The flood of new feedback posts asking for change will never stop, and they will only continue to grow as newer changes are implemented. This is how Bigbang and all the consequential changes in current GMS started. As per the foot in the door phenomenon, one tiny steps lead to bigger and bolder steps, which in this case are changes to the server. With more and more balance/mechanic changes to both forum/in-game, I'm not sure if I will even recognize this game in the near future. As fun and nostalgia are subjective, many people will still enjoy the game if there is 10 players versus 1000. It is the quality of friends that matter, not the quantity. There have been players that played since the beginning, when the playerbase was only 50. The declining playerbase of the server is therefore not an issue. I thus propose that all the new implementations: the social outreach (facebook), the new balance changes, mechanic (hp washing) changes, and even the greater communication between staff (matt) to players are all not important, and should be ditched. Newer changes to satisfy and retain the current players, and to attract newer players are not needed as some of us will still have fun and nostalgia even as playerbase declines. TLDR: More, newer, bolder changes are implemented, changing the game as we know it. Does not matter if playerbase declines due to the plethora of recent complaints, as many of us will still enjoy the game, so we should stop changing so many features of this forum and game.
So basically... 'It doesn't matter if most of you want a change, lets keep everything as it is because I like it this way' A game without updates wont survive long. Eventually, everyone gets bored lol.
Not because I particularly like it this way, but because many players will still have fun and nostalgia regardless of the playerbase, even if its in many of our opinions dying. Minor updates are fine, but there are major, entire mechanic and balance changes that are recently being implemented and developed. And do you think that these recent major changes will be the end? It will be the first of a series of nonstop, bolder changes and more demands from players. Does this not sound starkingly similar to Bigbang?
Can I know where you got your statistics for your claim of many players? Pretty sure this server will not go on the same path as big bang. I mean, sure, I’ll like to see some new content like targa/scarlion and new classes like aran or dual blades, but i know they will never happen. The updates and in this server are only for improvements in quality of life. This server is already 5 years old(?) and if they wanted to steer the path to Big Bang, they wouldve done it years ago.
You telling me a game that never gets updates regardless of how big or small will survive? In what virtual reality simulator did you play this out in bro?
@smexyg Check my last post - the comments and likes of all those players is self-explanatory, right? @zSmoke Minor updates are fine, but there are a plethora of huge updates in the near future. What I'm saying is, fun and nostalgia are subjective, and many people will still have fun and nostalgia regardless of the playerbase so the recent changes to satisfy/retain current players and to bring in new players are not needed.
Our updates are not gearing towards Big Bang, but rather what the game already has but not released yet. Don't tell me you don't want to see contents such as CPQ, CWKPQ, GPQ and Dojo? I won't believe you for a second if you say no lol, because as far as I can see, those are the few things that majority wants, including myself.
@Kai But there are people that will still have fun and nostalgia regardless of new content, so why should they be released?
With no updates nobody will play Royals anymore lol. If you have no updates, events or anything new people will stop getting excited and eventually quit. You'd see the population go down to like 200 or less and there will be no quality friends cause your friends will quit too lol
@Ayane That's what this entire post was about https://royals.ms/forum/threads/attract-more-players.119026/ But fun and nostalgia are subjective, no? So why should we work towards improving the system? Again, minor updates and events are fine, but a nonstop constant change of major mechanics where players will make more and bolder demands? You won't even recognize this game in the near future.
Because without new contents, the server will slowly lose popularity and eventually die. And while we're on the topic of this, I'm not sure if it's just me, but it seems like you're venting your unhappiness or whatever this is called due to this thread which you created earlier this week: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/attract-more-players.119026/#post-673226 It sort of contradicts what you are currently posting. True, nostalgic/fun is subjective, but we release updates while still maintaining the nostalgia of the server. Time changes, so does the server (i.e. it has to grow and not stay stagnant).
If you make no updates at all I think this will happen lol: 1)The economy will get more broken and items will be more and more expensive, people will get tired of the current gameplay and eventually quit. Basically the population will keep declining (but more than it is now) 2) Legends/Croosade or some other servers will overtake Royals as the top private server 3) New people will join the other servers instead while more of the current players will quit due to their friends quitting and the server being kinda dead in general. 4) At this point the population of Royals will be less than 200 players active and it will be very difficult to revive the server without major updates. At the point where the server has only 50 people online or less even updates won't help and your only options would be either a wipe or to just close the server.
@Kai It seems like you are taking a very absolute approach to this - I am not saying nothing should absolutely change whatsoever. Updates like they have been are honestly fine, but entire mechanics (requirement of hp washing to do bosses at certain levels), MoN > HT pendant (?), and so forth are being introduced. This will start a fire that cannot be quenched, and will only get bigger as players demand for bolder changes. This can be seen with the plethora of posts regarding nerfs to certain classes (nightlord, archmages, balance changes so classes get more useful in bossing/mobbing/etc, changes to make magicians more important in CWPQ, changes to leeching etc, etc). Why do you think that is? Once we players get 1 thing, we ask for 2, 3, 4, 100. Now that players asked for HP washing changes that has been part of royals since the beginning, and they are getting it, bolder demands will not stop. I am not against implementing content that was in the original server - Dojo, CWKPQ, CPQ, etc. But what the other changes would do is spread a fire that cannot be contained and will change the server tremendously (balance of classes/mechanics like hp washing/etc). Stop the fire when you can. @Ayane I am not saying you make no updates at all - minor tweaks and updates here and there are fine - It's just recently, there is notice that entire mechanics (i.e. the requirement of hp washing) that are being introduced and will begin a series of bolder demands from players that cannot be stopped.
We will adjust MoN accordingly, don't worry about that. We are actually having a debate regarding its stats. HP washing, the way I see it, won't be removed but, more will be done to allow players to gain HP without washing (see the latest announcement posted by Matt). Players have been asking for this and that since the dawn of time, but not every suggestion/feedback gets accepted. We will review it of course, and take into consideration of those that may be healthy to the progress of the server. But rest assured, the server won't become a Big Bang server, if that's what you're concern about.
@Kai I am not necessarily concerned that this server will become a Bigbang server, I am specifically concerned that people will lose the fun and nostalgia they had with the old systems, such as the old mechanics of HP washing. Fun and nostalgia are subjective, and some people still have fun and nostalgia with the old mechanics. Doing what the majority of players want is not "objectively" correct as per the arguments made against me in my last post. So why are fun and nostalgic mechanics for certain players being changed? Is it because the majority wants it?
Also, many players will still be satisfied as they have fun and nostalgia regardless of the size of the playerbase. That was one of the most prominent arguments in my last post. I will quote this from Aaron, "Dare I say, perhaps the number of people online doesn't directly influence the amount of fun one has?" Therefore, what is the point of finding ways to retain the current playerbase/attract new players? Many players will still be satisfied as fun and nostalgia are subjective. Why try to please the majority?
Look at this from another angle. If you are the host of a server and majority of the player base wants something that you view as not "fun" or "nostalgia", it might be your best interest to try and adjust your server towards the popular opinion because the majority of the player base makes up the...player base. Not the minority. Take a look on the polling result of the topics you mentioned. If what you said is true that "majority" of the people wouldn't like the change, then they wouldn't voted the way they did in the poll. You should add polling to back up your claim. It seems to me you're are speaking as you are part of the majority, but I think it's the other way around.
Running the server cost money to maintain the hardware. Smaller the player base means fewer donations. When the donation is less than the maintenance cost of the server, the server will be forced to shut down. Nothing is free in this world. My 2nd grade teacher taught me that a long time ago.
