Hello, I am a long time lover of the game mini-game Omok from maplestory. It was actually large factor for me to start playing again years later.

What I would like to propose is a reduction of the cost of completed omok sets. Currently to make a board it is required that you collect 99 omok pieces of two types. What I would like to propose is reducing the cost to 10 of each Omok piece.

The 99 piece cost has always been a really steep price in GMS but because Maple Royals has 3x experience and a smaller player base compared to of old school GMS the amount of people training at the lower level mobs that drop omok pieces is much less than old GMS days. As a result completed boards can cost a player 200 million or more and many players, even those who may want to casualty enjoy Omok do not have a board or don't find it worth it to keep one. My hopes is that a reduced cost will make it so many more people will have completed boards on them, I would likely start giving them away. If more people have boards it will be more likely that people will create games when they have a spare moment with their friends. People who have little to no experience with the game can learn by playing other casual players instead of only those willing to invest in a completed set.

    Thanks for your consideration.

While I'm not totally against lowering the amount of pieces needed, 10 is way too low. Also, keep in mind that this server has a higher drop rate than GMS did, so finding pieces is easier.

Did you know that, a complete board used to cost like 500m~1b??? 200m is already cheap for a complete board.
I think you should take your time to farm the pieces, if you truly love Omok, you won't see it a long grind.

you can also try doing this short and easy quest, which has a 3/11 chance of rewarding a omok set.

Guess the price went up, that's kind of my point. I have a board, I want more people to have them too so there is more of a community to play with. I grinded from lvls 50-53 at octopus to get the pieces I needed it took quite a while. I bought most of the slime pieces I needed.

I might be wrong but I belived only one of the players had to carry an Omok set? You should be able to play with 100% of the community as long as you bring the game.

Well it seems the community has spoken and rejected this idea. A buddy in game pointed out that this exact same suggestion had come up before. I found the thread and I hope that the tone and demeanor of the OP didn't influence peoples perception of what I was asking here. My goal here was not so much to make it easier for me to play but to make it easier for others to play. Having a lot of casual players really improves the experience for more dedicated players as well.

The best thing took from skimming though the other thread was this post by @John
This is exactly my point, if the purpose of mini games is to pass time when board then we shouldn't also restrict that to people who are dedicated enough to obtain a board. If it were entirely up to me I would make the board a Setup-item and give every player in the game one for free. But i'm kinda obsessed with the game and I do understand there is a value in making players work to achieve something.

PS. It recently occurred to me that cheap/"free" chalkboards is also likely a reason for less players having a mini-game set compared to oldschool GMS.

Well I believe that's based on the poll. But if you read the replies I believe you'll get a better picture of people's opinions (those who care about Omok tend to be the ones who takes the time to reply to threads like this)

Did you try what I suggested above?
If it worked the way I believed it worked this suggestion here would render half of the boards useless (LF> Omok Board recycling facilities - for environmentally friendly dispose)

Yes only one person needs an omok board for two to play. The person with the board always goes first during the first match, so if you want to play second then you have to throw a match or host a game yourself, this is a small issue the idea is to other people to play each other.

For example: I have been recently been using Smega's to try to find opponents (usually two or three smegas a night). What will happen pretty much every time, a few people will come to play but only one person can join my game so by the time I'm done playing the first person the rest have left and I have to smega again if I want to play someone else. If most of the people that came (who are obviously interested in omok) had a board then it would be a common occurrence for someone else to set up a game and play another person meaning they might still be around when i'm done with my games.

Thanks for that information. Now the whole thread makes more sense to me.
Still, I feel that the amount of Omok pieces being "produced" in game should be enough for plenty of players to create a board. The issue then, is the cost as you made clear in your first post. But changing the drop rate / amount needed would also affect new players, who currently can make a decent amount of money from farming Omok pieces.

Or perhaps I'm wrong? Maybe simplified Omok creation would make players more interested in the game, thus keeping piece price constant? Who knows?

Although I do agree with the idea that the cost of producing an Omok set should be decreased, collecting the pieces is not the only way to obtain a board. For instance, the quest Mason the Collector can be completed with the possibility of obtaining an Omok set. In order to make it easier to obtain a set (as the quest is not repeatable and you only have a 3/11 chance from receiving a set from the quest), perhaps the quest rewards could be reworked for a higher chance to obtain a set (maybe something like 3/8 or 3/7), or the cost could be reduced to something obtainable within a reasonable amount of time (maybe 50 pieces instead of 99).

EDIT: My bad, didn't notice it was posted above:
