New to MapleRoyals, just a question or two about the server

Hey guys!

Name's Bimdas, and I'm a huge lover of MapleStory. I played on and off from 2006 to pre-big bang, and feel as though today's MapleStory is severely lacking. The community sucks, it's too easy, and I feel like the classes have gotten really out of hand.

So, my main question is, what time period of MapleStory is MapleRoyals most representative of?

I've got to say some of my favourite memories of MapleStory include the time period where everyone was grinding KPQ and then going to LPQ, and having a "track" got you an immediate party.

However, at the same time I also loooooooved the time when Evan, Aran and Dual Blades had just come out and Carnival PQ was the big thing. All the classes after that I thought were a little out of hand, but I must say my favourite class I've played so far is Aran. I love the idea of combo's and skills dependent on that concept.

Anyway, I'm looking for a private server that's representative of either of these two time periods in MapleStory, and I'm hoping MapleRoyals is the one.

Any guidance would be appreciated

 

Royals is v62 with some extras. We have ulu and ToT, which were not originally available in this version.

We are missing a lot of what made the OG maplestory fun (most of it isn't possible due to having a few hundred players versus thousands), but there is still plenty to do here.

KPQ are CPQ are done often. You should be able to find a party fairly easily for both. LPQ not so much.

We only have the original 5 explorers. You won't find a pre-bigbang server worth a damn with Arans, Evans and DBs. I don't even think a decent v90 source exists.

 

We have cool people.

 

If you're looking for a date range, go back to about 2008-2009 and you have Maple Royals- with some additional content such as Ulu and Temple of Time. We have the Explorers as Ague said, but it would be impossible to add in Cygnus, Arans/Evans, or anything above without a full edit of the client- which defeats the purpose of us being a v62 "nostalgic" server.

Carnival PQ here does exist and it does work- but the gameplay is a little different than you might remember. in GMS "Trade wins" and "Fight for win" were most popular- in here you find that "Free wins" are most popular instead. That is because it's currently possible for a person to go into CPQ as a solo party, against a team of 1-6 people, and give the entire party a free win. The EXP for the losing side is still great- at level 48 I was still getting about 50%+ per PQ.
It's also currently best to use rooms 5/6 because the spawn rate is severely lacking in the other rooms, and there's a few other bugs- read the other forum threads about it if you want more info.

But yeah, this is a pretty awesome server honestly. I dont even feel like i'm playing a pserver most of the time- I literally forget that, and think I'm still playing the original maple because this is around the time period that I left off at when I quit.

Apart from Temple of Time and ULU I'd like to add that we have v62+ NX items, which are obtainable via our donator tab in the cash shop!

To prevent this question from popping up: donating is and never will be pay 2 win. Only cosmetics.

@Ague I did a little searching for v83+ servers and you're right, either they have ridiculously high rates or an inactive/asshole-ish community Oh well

It seems like this server's right for me (a shame about the Aran news though ), so which class do you guys recommend for a first character? I'm particularly fond of the archer and thief classes, but I'm unsure of their funding requirements to be worthwhile. Any advice?

 

Thieves are pretty good, but they do get kind of expensive. Bandits use a lot of money with meso explosion but aren't very gear reliant. Night lords arent' too expensive up front- but once you start scrolling claws and trying to get your skills (Triple Throw 20 is over 300mil), it can add up. Thankfully we're pretty good at bossing, so you can make your money back that way.
Pirates are pretty cool- I like Brawlers because they're kind of like a bandit + a warrior combined. They use a lot of combinations of skills instead of just spamming the same attack.
Marksman and Bowman are always nice too- Marksman have a harder time finding xbows but I believe their scrolls are relatively cheap in comparison, so it wouldn't be too hard to scroll yourself some stuff with a bit of hunting.
Mages are probably the most expensive to fund, as INT gear is incredibly expensive- it's used for HP washing as well so it's very widely wanted.

 

So with Night Lords, can you still be effective/be in demand for parties for bossing and such at late levels without too much investment? I know you said NL's are good at bossing, but is that without too much spending?

I was never really into Pirates. Never particularly appealed to me. Although, what you said about Brawlers and they're combo's definitely interests me, considering Aran was my favourite class and was entirely combo dependent. I know you mentioned Marksman, but how about Bow Masters? Are they relatively cheap?

In terms of mages, I understand that they're very expensive, but I read somewhere else on the forum that bishops are a quick answer to easy money. Does this apply even though mages are demanding to fund?

Nope. Cash Shop items which were in the original v62 game are obtainable through normal NX, which you can get by voting or killing bosses.

I would say you need at least a bit of funding to be an affective NL. Going dexless the first 100 levels is fine, with a decent Skanda (lvl 64 dexless claw), but soon enough your damage will need a bit of an upgrade. It doesn't become impossible to play a NL with average range, but it's generally just less fun to play and takes more time to level. NL is one of the most expensive classes, if you want to compete in terms of damage.

I hate pirates so I can't be of help there.

Whoever said that mages demand funding is not very clever. Mage gear is expensive, yes, because INT gear is also used to HP wash, making them high in demand. But you don't need INT gear as a mage at all. Just go LUKless, get a good wand, a zhelm, maybe get a decent cape and gloves along the way, and you will do decent damage. The big difference is that a mage's base damage (especially when lukless) is very decent and will not increase THAT much in comparison to, say, a Night Lord. As their bas damage kind of sucks, but increases a lot with every ATT (or LUK) you gain.

Looks like mage is gonna be my best bet then. I take it Bishop's the way to go, what with all I've heard about how they're very easy money makers.

 

Bishops are the best money making class, but of you plan on making it your main and plan on doing end game leech, they can potentially be more expensive than any other class.

In the early levels, don't worry about funding too much. Just focus on your weapon and earring and you should be solid for a long time.

Also, Genesis 20 is around 800m+ for the book and it's in high demand so save up for that. The difference between Level 10 Genesis and Level 20 Genesis is about 100 Magic.

 

In all honesty I don't particularly plan on making a bishop my main. I'd love to have a NL main, so I was thinking of using the bishop to fund that.

 

That's what most people go through. Like what was said above, it's not too hard in the beginning. If you don't need a godly NL, just focus on a nice Claw and the rest will come.

 

I made a NL first, and I didn't find funding to be too hard. The hardest part for me so far was making a top/bottom, but that's because i'm female. Finding female gear is near impossible sometimes. Bishops are money makers in that they can sell leech per hour,so if that doesn't get boring to you...then go for it. Personally I found gene-spam boring in GMS when I mained a bishop, hence why i made NL.

But no, a NL doesn't need much funding to be wanted in bossing parties- zakum is the most common and as long as you have TT20 you'll be wanted easily. I get asked to join zak runs all the time and my equips still kinda suck.

 

honestly, if you're willing to put in about an hour a day running through FM, you can make money just fine with any class. I started as an unfunded CB, got bored of exploding money on bigfoot (even though I had more and more money to blow every day) and funded an archer. Sure, selling leech is "easy" but making money as another class isn't very difficult either.

If you want a NL, make a NL. You can always upgrade your equips later on, you don't have to be super funded and over powered from level 10.

EDIT: So I just read about HP washing and am a little bit confused about it. If I make an NL as my first character, would I have to worry about HP washing?

 

Technically no.

Realistically yes.

If you don't wash, you won't be able to survive certain boss attacks.

 

A NL without HP washing or HP equips won't be able to zak until 8X or so (you can't go as an attacker until 135+ anyway) won't be able to anego without a partner until 145 or so, won't be able to HT until 180 (you're useless until at LEAST 160 anyway) and won't ever be able to tank a hit from BF or an anego slap.

HP washing enough to tank BF or to tank anego slap is going to cost you a couple billion on its own, not to mention how much it costs to make the INT equips you'll need to get there. Washing enough to tank anego gun by 135 on the other hand is pretty minor, and you can do it with very limited money. Add a little (40) base int, get a zhelm and dep star at 50, pick up a wooden wand with int and maybe a cape or overall when you have money in the future.

 

Damn, so it seems HP washing is pretty important then. Would I still be able to do it at later levels when I get the money to do so? Is the timing of the HP washing important?
