I would like to have an option prompted at death if you want to use a safety charm or not, if you have them in your inventory of course. Currently they just automatically consume when you die, which might cause you to waste them if you have 0% exp. I believe that this was a feature in gms later versions or maybe I'm confusing this with buff freezers and/or wheel of destiny. I realise that this is not something that would be high on the list of things to do if it would even be possible or wanted however I felt like this would be nice to have!
You're definitely thinking of buff freezers and wheels. I don't think safety charms work like this even in the current GMS, and I certainly do not ever recall them working like this at any point in a previous version of GMS.
It's likely possible to have them only be consumed if your EXP is more than 0, I believe this would be easy to implement and I personally can't see there being an issue with it. However the idea of having a yes/no prompt window isn't possible due to client restrictions, the only other feasible way for there to be a choice of using a charm or not would be having the player enter a command like '/usecharm' while dead... however, this option would be problematic to code since EXP is currently immediately removed upon death.
I would've preferred to have an option since you might have anywhere between 0-5% and in some cases you might not want to waste your charm on a tiny amount like that and for some you might want to if you're at a higher level for example. However since it is not possible to have such an option i think having it not consume if you're at 0% would be adequate.
Not trying to be rude, or funny, but you could just save them in your cash shop inventory. It's not like it would take you lots of time to get one again.
I mean clearly i know theres ways to not consume saftey charms its not as if its mandatory to always have it in your inventory, however i feel like its quite pointless that it consumes even when you have 0% exp. What if you're in a boss like horntail you start at 90% you level during the run and die at the end you will have to give your charms to someone else during the run if you dont want it to be consumed after you have level up. Although my initial proposal is more of what i'd like i to see i dont think it would hurt if it just didnt consume if you're at 0% which i do realize is not very often except if you for some reason carry around charms on your level 200 character.
Considering what you've said above, that it's not like you'd care about 2~5% loss (in case they made it not to consume at 0% specifically). If it's possible, they could then make it only consume at over 5% Exp instead of 0%.
I thought about that but then this would have to be an option to turn it on or off since many people might have different opinions about losing even just a tiny amount of exp also this might be case specific like for a lvl 199 character even just 2% is quite a bit of exp.
0% is something hard to be at. When you level at a boss specially, you always get leftovers. Even grinding, when you kill the last mobs, you level up and get >0.something~ That said, give or take, nothing should change in the end.
Perhaps a happy medium is to have a check to see if you are between 0.00% and 0.50%, or some other set number that's very low, but high enough that you wouldn't exceed it from the previous level up EXP.
UHHHH so this happened today. Went Guild Zak and as I leveled (as zak died), I got hit by 1/1 and somehow died immediately. Safety charm got used up nonetheless . Hopefully something will be added in the future to prevent such phenomena from repeating.
An issue that could happen with this idea is if a bishop uses res while the player is dead. What would happen if a player is dead and hasn't chosen whether or not they want to use their charm, and a bishop uses res? The charm would have to either default to being used, or not being used. I think something plausible would be some command to toggle when the charms are on or not. That way before dying you would have been able to decide if you wanted your charm to be used or not.
