This is primarily directed at the staff, since they're the actual decisionmakers when it comes to server rules. Outside of in-game goods and services, is there a policy in place for what people are allowed to advertise, and at what frequency? Of course, advertising other servers isn't allowed, but I'm thinking in terms of players advertising their YouTube channels/music productions/Twitch streams/etc. via smega and shoutbox. I believe most players, and Internet denizens in general, would agree that they don't enjoy advertising. That's why we install ad blockers, have dump e-mails for spam, and complain about YouTube ads. Personally, I don't believe that advertising is any less advertising if carried out by an individual rather than a corporation, and that "pls subscribe" is just as grating as "Enjoy an ice cold Coca-Cola while waiting for LPQ!" Regardless, I think a firm rule about this would be helpful in the future, if not now. There's an entire "industry" that's sprung up around Twitch streaming and YouTube "influencers" in the past couple of years, so the potential for abuse is significant.
I'm definitely against people advertising Twitch/Youtube links that don't relate to MapleRoyals, but if someone is Horntailing and wants to get some attention, I see nothing wrong with it. I'm a MapleRoyals streamer and I wouldn't have met many of the people I know today if I had not advertised my stream via smega or shoutbox. In fact, I actually convinced people to join MapleRoyals due to my streams (because of advertising, the stream view count was high it was one of the top MapleStory streams on Twitch). People can post in the videos section of the forum, but please, who actually actively visits that shit. If rules and regulation are put in place, this will definitely kill off small-time streamers (including myself) and I don't want this happening. Speaking of... drop by if you see me streaming: twitch.tv/CyraptorMS
I’ve seen people banned before under RWT for telling people they’ll pay them 10m if they follow them on twitch. Be wary.
Interesting conversation I personally don't have any issue against streamers linking their stream on shoutbox or via smega. We can always choose to ignore them. We aren't forced to view it like Youtube ads or phone apps. However I must say I really like how advertising offends you, and also your attitude towards him. Made my day.
To be specific, the amount of advertising elsewhere on the Internet is absolutely obscene, and I would hate to see Royals turn into yet another cesspool. So, yes, I am "triggered." I certainly don't believe anyone is posting their videos or Twitch streams for the greater benefit of the server; it's pure self promotion. The point of this thread, though, is to ask for an established policy. If Matt is fine with said badly disguised self promotion, then it's a non-issue regardless of how annoying I, personally, find it.
I honestly think you need to realize that MapleRoyals will never, ever ever E V E R, become as big as YouTube or Facebook and won’t have that influx of so-called influencers. I think you’re worrying too much about something that is not worth worrying about, at least on the current scale. And whether or not people post MapleRoyals content related videos/streams/whatever they’re making or have made is not really a big deal. Even if it is to do self promo it will always promote MR aswell.
this is really a thing, sorry it hurt you man this bad but if you think I was just doing that for self publicity then you're wrong. I actually do take it into offense that you would think that. I finally found a game that enjoy playing that doesn't give me a stroke trying to be the best at. I love the community and every part of this game, and all I'm doing is trying to share my experience with anyone would be willing to watch and try to strengthen the community size by getting people who may play on other servers to join maple royals. I could really care less if I never got a single follower, its just for the entertainment of others and to strengthen the population of maple royals. but if its really a thing to post it in another forum ill do it just so people don't get toxic with me. I have done nothing wrong to you, I don't even know who you are, I'm new to this game and the forums, and find it extremely disrespectful that you would just call someone out like that and curse at that thru the forums just because I made a mistake but linking my stream. But like I said, if posting it on a separate forum would make other not so "stressed out" then ill do so. Hope ya have a better day. <3
It's a screenshot of someone saying something funny, standard fare for forum sigs. You didn't hurt me, don't worry. My issue stems from the fact that I've seen you repeatedly link in the shoutbox, but I'm not gonna dwell on that, because I feel like we understand each other now. Thank you for understanding, and being willing to try something different. Actually, I think a subforum for Twitch streams (discrete from the "Videos" section) would be a great idea. Maybe its own section since, as someone upthread noted, the "Multimedia" subforum is pretty dead. That being said, I'm still hoping the staff puts an advertising policy in place for the future. If not, hopefully, a plan of action.
Nah it’s advertisement for Ronaldo with your logic, he’s making millions off mapleroyal and doesn’t even play the game with your logic.
