I was able to download the windows client on my desktop with no difference to my laptop regarding software. I have tried it at a friends house and my own laptop, it will not install. It keeps saying it is malicious on, Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and Internet explorer.

I followed all instructions on all of these browsers, have disabled my windows firewall (including security essentials) and have even gone as far as to change the google chrome registry to remove the malware scan (which really didn't happen for whatever reason).

Nothing has worked, Opera can manage to download it, but it doesn't have the icon and deletes the file after a few minutes upon trying to open the exe file. It also won't let me save in the Set up file (maplestory set up), which is the only file I can download.

    How on earth can I get this file downloaded so my friend can play as well? let alone my laptop. I repeate I have;

Turned off all fire wall protection, altered all browsers including but not limited to, changing the settings and even the registry. Clearly there is a problem with this format.

Alright I fixed it. Even though I uninstalled the firewall, microsoft operating system STILL uses it, evidently there is no way to close it/fully remove it. You have to go into microsoft security essentials>settings>.exe>add to whitelist for those who have future problems

Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials are two different things.

Windows Firewall is a component of Windows. You cannot uninstall this, and there is no option called "uninstall". You can only disable the service it runs in, or go into your control panel and "turn it off". Windows Firewall will never block individual downloads. All it does is block non-standard communication ports. (Non-standard entry points to your computer from the internet)

Microsoft Security Essentials is a program that you choose to install. This is a type of anti-malware software. This can block individual files from being downloaded. If you are using windows 8, this program may have been pre-installed.

There is no problem with the file format being hosted.
You must learn what you have running on your computer, and how to control it. That is your issue and not the Staff's here at mapleroyals.

If you need help learning about your windows computer, you could always ask me for help.

Maybe I can teach you how to read as I said "Windows firewall (Including security essentials)", as in two separate entities. I will repeat, with both of them disabled (via msconfig, you know what that is right?) I removed them off the booting tray, which means I would have to manually activate them.

But I'm sure your valuable and amateur input is very useful, 2 hours after I solved the problem with self experimenting and going through 12 threads of "lol idk disable ur fw".

Yes, I am aware of the msconfig utility. What had caught my eye was that you mentioned:
This further brought me to believe that you were very confused about what Windows Firewall is, and what MSE is. Due to this, I attempted to explain to you what these two items are. You claimed to uninstall the firewall, then said the operating system STILL uses it. Because you said the operating system, I understand you are indeed mentioning Windows Firewall, a built in component of windows that microsoft did not provide an uninstall package for. And not any third party firewall that can be uninstalled.
Specifically because you said you "uninstalled" the firewall, I assumed you were confused.

Perhaps the country you originate from has different rules for parenthesis and the word including, but from my knowledge, the use of parenthesis containing a subject after a subject signifies that the subject inside the parenthesis has a direct connection to the original subject before the parenthesis. The word including further leads to me to believe that your are trying to say that security essentials is included in the Windows Firewall package. Even without the parenthesis, it would be difficult to understood that you see Windows Firewall and security essentials as two different entities because of the use of the word "including".

    Include:
    • v. To take in as a part, element, or member.
    • v. To contain as a secondary or subordinate element.
    • v. To consider with or place into a group, class, or total
You wrongly accused MapleRoyals of uploading the game files in a problematic format, when numerous players have no problem installing the game and also use the microsoft windows operating system.
There are other members at play, that cause anti-malware software to block the MapleRoyals software download. MapleRoyals can do little to nothing to correct this false-positive.
You must also realize that msconfig does not show you everything. You may attempt to stop your anti-malware software by removing its start on machine/user logon registry entry and disabling the service, but it may still have additional components such as drivers, and other boot-start components that are not shown in msconfig.

I do very much appreciate however that you shared how to add an exception for mapleroyals in MSE.I'm sure this will help many new players.

This is how I have learned all I know about the windows operating system chain. By self experimentation and being exposed to a vast number of windows computers when repairing issues for friends and family. I wish you good luck in teaching yourself more.

    I am done here.

I digress "uninstall" was the wrong verb usage, but considering I kept it from booting up, it really washes out as the same thing in this case. I'm aware of the differences, I just took care of both of them so that the possibility didn't exist.

Based on your assumption you misinterpreted the usage of including. I was in the mindset of disabling all potential devices that could block it, including was the appropriate terminology to use as it is grouped with "computer protection".

I'm aware, but I though the general application would be enough, I'm not willing to mess with it to that degree unfortunately and decided to try a general blanket. Unfortunately, even if mapleroyals can't fix it (In my opinion there are ways as other entities don't have this issue), doesn't mean that it's any less problematic. There are 15 threads that I could find that have been posted since January, of those who were having the same issue, where every solution was to disable some 3rd party firewall, which I technically didn't have as MSE is typically with the operating system, or pressed for you to get it.

I do very much appreciate however that you shared how to add an exception for mapleroyals in MSE.I'm sure this will help many new players.

That's great but your post initially came off snarky, with a hint of brown nosing. I'm glad things were clarified in the end and hopefully this thread in the future will keep players from being turned away by this error

Disable your antivirus as that is deleting the files.
