When I was in M'SEA back at '06, I was a 6x Cleric. Third job wasn't out yet. And godly items were pretty rare. My cousins played Fighter and Spearman, so we partied a lot. Back then, as much as I can remember, the famous weapons are Doombringer, Heaven's Gate (2h swords), Omega Spear, Steelie Throwing Stars, Black Mamba Claw and Evil Wing staff. Those are my personal favourites too. Heaven's Gate was so rare that we had to go to Cursed Sanctuary just to get a glance at the pros holding it. Steelies were 20m+, Ilbis were 35m sth but it's even hard to find a seller. Evil Wings were around 40m clean. Everything was so legendary. But these days, I speak with a warrior who's played for like 1 year and a half and he's never even seen Heaven's Gate. Steelies are 100k a piece, Ilbis are 3m. And during my first month of playing, I've only seen ONE Evil Wing. The point I'm making is this. Why have a huge variety of weapons/stars if people only want the one with the best stats? I don't wanna get rid of the variety, but the real question would be: How can we make people interested in those other weapons and stars as well? My opinion is to reduce drops of lower-stat weapons from mobs while buffing them bit by bit. This would raise the demand and the price for lower-grade weapons as well as stars. For example, make Cilbi's attack be 30 and Ilbi's be 29 while Steelies are 28. That might make people "want" the lower stat weapons because really, who'd wanna spend billions for just 1 WA? Anyways, other opinions, guys? Or do you wanna keep the market the way it is? #Kamijo
I also miss them.. even remember spending 40k NX on a Fairfrozen once People made it a goal to own these famous equips in the original versions partly because of how badass they looked, but the same can be argued with end-game weapons. Omega Spear, Heaven's Gate and so forth are unpopular choices because of the availability of maple weapons and Royals' 3.2x rate. Why not skip non end-game weapons since reaching the requirement for end-game weapons is easier and they're a more cost-effective way to increase damage? Even if a buff was applied, the fact that players need not worry about stat requirements via maple weapons makes them that much more unnecessary for those who do not really care to own one. As for stars, I personally collect them all however it makes sense players would want to use their strongest ones (ilbis/cilbis) when training and bossing. Hwabis are another star you'll likely come across since they stack up to 1,200 per set instead of 1,000. Edit: stars max per slot (dont trust projectiles info in our library)
tbh I think that the only way to make those kind of items viable would be to buff secondary stats. Currently its almost never worth upgrading your secondary stats.
MapleStory is pretty much a minmaxing simulator in this version so you'll have to accept a dps cut for aesthetics. No fusion anvil ever and such We got free NX here and stuff so the real nostalgic look of everyone being ugly with mix-matched armour pieces isn't very common haha.
I agree that those old weapons look amazing and bring back some of the most nostalgic “feels” due to them being used by the top players back in the day (such as the Fairfrozen on Tiger). The issue is creating a demand for them or finding a way to implement them without drastically changing the game. To make items like a Fairfrozen, Casters, Evil Wing, etc. competitive enough to be used would take changing the entire meta. A better solution, and one that other pre BB servers have implemented, is to create a transmog system where you can turn a normal weapon/equip into a NX item. So that Fairfrozen can become your NX cover up. While this doesn’t make the old items more desired per se, it does manage to include them back in the game without altering anything gameplay related. Everything would function as normal, just, we’d have old school weapons/items being used as NX cover ups. Which would be great in itself just to let players opt for a more old school look (and more NX options period) if desired. Just my opinion though.
Talking about weapons or other equips, I think the underlying reason is that not everyone would spend much time to learn about that or that the equips just couldn’t get popular because of major defects. For example, the warrior weapons you mentioned is slower than other weapons. It requires a lot more att on them to be comparable to popular weapons with average att. However, in this case people may not want to scroll them because landing 4 to 6 30% is hard and expensive. Why not just compromise and get the popular ones? Some equips are just not known to ppl yet. For example, BM/NL gloves, and Flame Sword (faster than ST). Under current market price of gloves without job requirement, gloves with job req. will get more wanted because they are cheaper, which however hasn’t come true yet. About flame sword, in my thread @bearagorn questioned my calculation, only to found that she doesn’t even know the speed of ST. I am not here to insult her but just to give an example that people don’t know about the weapons.
Why not just implement the Fusion Anvil to make this possible. I dont see it being game breaking in any way
Good idea tho, but I wasn't talking about having the style in the game. It's about those weapons going to waste as NPC drops...
You could just limit Maple Weapons in general to only drop during anniversary events (Like how it's kind of supposed to be). It won't get rid of them, but the supply should drop pretty drastically, further incentivizing other choices. Also, Maple Helmets. Where are they?! My nostalgia demands them! :V
