What exactly is the value of meso in this game other than the one we percieve for it? I know this question sounds kind of funny but other than our shared acceptance that money is valuable is there anything else you actually NEED mesos for other than pots in game?
Originally, mesos was actually quite valuable and it could be hard to afford equips sold by NPCs. I remember a point in time where I spent all my mesos for a Lv. 35 helmet (around 160K I think). I think mesos inflated way quicker than developers had expected though, so soon the value of mesos was completely out of proportion with prices of items sold by NPCs. This happened in GMS, and it happened again here.
smega and tp. Its also a better hoarding item than ws/cs. RIP to all ppl who stacked ws cs when they were 500m and lost 20% of their net worth in a month.
Both of those items are added as custom features in Royals and their price is based on the low value that mesos had reached. Also, both of them can (still,i think?) be purchased "normally" in the Cash Shop using NX. So I'd say no, there's basically nothing in this game for which you need mesos. Nothing that gives the standard of what they should be worth, so to speak.
You got it backwards, those who had ws/cs didn't lose any value actually, but those with bil coins had a 20% increased value. Spoiler: complicated explanation The real currency is white and chaos scrolls and it isn't going to change unless a version upgrade is made, it is because all end game items take these scrolls to make. the price of a perfect red craven back in 2015 was 12b which back then was worth 40 white scrolls, and when the scrolls rose to 500m each what was the claws price? 20b, or 40 white scrolls. I try to buy the scrolls when they are low in price and sell them when I think they will lower Right now people try to use the excuse of past prices to overprice their gear, for example I try to sell a 91/17 RC for 20b, a few months ago it would be easy to sell it for that, a buyer would pay me 40 ws/cs and we'll trade, but now 20b is around 47 scrolls, this price isn't reasonable and only a buyer whos both desperate and lacks the market understanding might pay this much, the claws actual worth tho stays 40 scrolls, 17b. Now what about clean perfect items? should a perfect dps be sold for the same price it did before? no, because with the same amount of mesos you could get more scrolls, so mesos is worth more now, if a seller would charge the same price as before summer bonanza it'd be expensive. the main reason why mesos is useful is that you can use it in fm shops as the currency.
what's with the complicated explanations. We need a generally accepted medium to exchange for services and items in game, much like in the real world, and it just happens to be in the form of mesos in this game. Everything else is just good/bad investments.
To lure n00bs at Kerning PQ area before you open multiple Jr Balrog sacks on them as you laugh and celebrate at their exp loss.
In some other games, however, there's a correlation between generated currency and cost of in-game "static" items (from NPCs). Although this is a single-player game mechanic, it's brought into MMOs too. And it's completely different from the real world. You're right in saying Maple isn't like those games though.
Tardex's complicated explanation is exactly what I had in mind. Perfectly scrolled items value is determined according to the value of the scrolls that make them. Which basically, in my eyes, make WS and CS the currency of the game. I was trying to think if there's anything I missed and I did overlook the FM item seller. Meso is good because it gives grinding value other than the exp gained and it's convinent with the FM shops. It's just that without inherent value in itself I could forsee an event where it loses all meaning and the only thing that matters is NX and WS/CS.
