This is just a suggestion guys, please dont eat me!

Iv seen tons of people get banned on this server for account sharing, but iv never seen anyone get banned yet for account sharing for leveling purposes. Main reasons why?

    -They didn't read the toc
-They didnt think transferring an item to their brother/sister/cousin/bf/gf account was considered account sharing
-They didnt think looking to see if their brother/sister/cousin/bf/gf had an item they traded them long ago
-Hp washing their friend because they dont know how
    -Organizing their boyfriend/girlfriends inventory

Those are just a few iv seen in the past, honestly none i feel deserve a IP ban, i feel its quite harsh.

So my suggestion is to reduce the Perma ban to an Account ban. If you account share you account will be blocked but your ip will not be so you will be forced to start all over. After they can make a new account and the gms can always check up on them to make sure it doesent happen again, if it does then it can result in a ip ban.

So leave your feedback guys like i said, please dont eat me.
If you like the idea tell me why and if you dont tell me why too:p

I do find it strange that this and vote abuse are taken more seriously than botting when they are typically far less deplorable.

I honestly don't even understand the reason that account sharing is so strict. Even GMS didn't care that much. So what, two people play one character and it levels up faster. Is there some sort of ranking or leaderboard that matters here? Does the community even care. Or is it just The GMs being anal retentive about it. Personally if someone wants to share their account, let them take them risk. Honestly sometimes I feel like some of the rules here are purely just there because someone lacks control in their real life and feels the need to control what people do online.

90% of the time people who are getting banned for account sharing arn't even leveling other peoples toons it's logging in to help a friend with something or transfer something or do a jump quest because their friend is terrible at them.

People constantly hacked one another in GMS. Strictly forbidding account sharing prevents a shitstorm like that from brewing.

No it doesn't lol. If someone is going to get hacked they are going to get hacked. The account sharing rule is banning more innocent people than non innocent.

The main reason I believe is yes, it opens you up to getting hacked *so* much easier- and it would put on a ton more work for the staff.
The other reasons I believe are that it gives players an unfair advantage to have someone else helping them with their account /for/ them.
My boyfriend is incredibly new to maple still, and countless times he's died trying to learn how to poison death teddies as a fire/poison mage. He had no clue how to do LMPQ, or Ludi PQ, or anything without my guidance.
The difference is that I sat next to him and told him what to do and how to do it, rather than doing it for him.

I had friends do the same thing for me with the zak JQs- in GMS I had someone do it for me, but here I had 2 friends walk me through the entire thing step by step until I finally got it. They sat with me on the map and waited at each step, telling me how to time each jump.
The second time around when I did it for my brawler, my boyfriend sat next to me and told me "Okay, jump now, get on that rope, stay" because he was able to better understand it than I.
While I agree an instant permaban is a bit harsh.. I wouldn't be opposed to a 2 tier system- 14 day ban first offense, perm ban 2nd offense. But that would also open up gray areas for us as Staff too, when it comes to handling things- and things could get messy and difficult.
It's not the staff being "anal retentive" though. There's always a reason behind why something is a rule.

How would anyone get hacked if they didn't share their account details?

I had access to pretty much all my friends' accounts in GMS, but nobody had mine. I've been playing Maplestory since the first day of beta and have never been hacked.

Bans don't work this way. IP ban, always. Deleting accounts might be an idea, though.

Tell that to the what 4 or 5 people in the last week that have been hacked?

As far as putting more work on the staff. That's what you volunteered for. And as such I don't understand how it would add "more work" to remove the ban for account sharing, unless it was being severely abused. Infact, it gets RID of work for the staff because now yo udon't need to worry about something,

None of those people lost everything, and IIRC they all even had mesos still left on their account. I'm gonna consider that a weird bug (or perhaps a shady attempt to regain boomed equips?) until proven otherwise.

    Off topic guys! haha:)

Most did lose everything, if you look back all of their mesos and items were taken. You may be right about it being a glitch, but thats one scay ass glitch! The gms are looking into though so

    BACK ON TOPIC YOU TWO!:p

Well i'm just going to go ahead and say, if we put up a vote, chances are. just like the NX for couples, and family members. the community would be a majority for a change in policy or a complete removal of the ban period unless for severe abuse.

Id love to see Matt Opinion on this. I understand that the community is always on your ass with every move you make so you cant make single exceptions to peoples cases which is why im proposing you change the rule as a whole. I know the whole staff would need to consult eachother but i feel its very worth looking into and consider changing, any worrys you have about changing the rule you could post and we as a community can respond to it and hopefully help!:)

I also vote for an account ban instead of an ip ban. Giving them a chance to restart would be nice. I believe if someone was caught accounting sharing and was account banned once, they wouldn't attempt it again. Of course, giving chances (such as a primary 14day ban to a 30day ban) will result in no fear.

Ranking yes, there is a ranking/leaderboard and people take the prestige of earning Level 200 by themselves quite seriously. Do you REALLY think we want more "control" of people's lives inside a game? If that's really what is in the air you're breathing, go outside and breathe some fresh air to clear your mind :) The last thing I want to do when I get home from work is look at a board full of Report Abuse claims of people reporting other players for account sharing or violating any other rule. Heck, I would love to see no Report Abuse claims because it means everyone is following the rules and getting along, but we all know that isn't going to happen anytime soon.

That is NOT true at all. The staff volunteer because they enjoy this server and the player community so much that they are willing to take time that could be spent doing anything else (playing their legit, IRL stuff, etc) and help out the server and its players. So please, don't say staff volunteered for more work, that's not the case and should never be the case. And no, it does not get RID of work. I guarantee if account sharing was allowed, there would be an increase of threads in character issues saying "X logged onto my account that we share and stole my WS! Give them back to me GMs!!!@1!@!!!11" meaning even MORE Character Issue threads than we already deal with.

Finally, there hasn't been a good reason given for allowing account sharing. If you want to organize someone's inventory or check the equips on their account, why don't you share screenshots or even share your Desktop via Skype or Teamviewer like the staff frequently do with each other? So please provide reasons FOR account sharing so I can understand what you are seeking.

Yes the Staff Did volunteer to do the work the Title of GM is not a pedastal, it's not a title just for popularity it comes with responsibility and work, and yes it does get rid of work as far as

"X logged onto my account that we share and stole my WS! Give them back to me GMs!!!@1!@!!!11"
That's solved with one single line of rules that can replace the rule about you're ass is banned if you even think about sharing your account to.
"If you share your account information and that person takes something it's your own fault and responsibility your items will NOT be restored."

As far as reason for account sharing goes, if Ilisted all of the benefits and reasons i'de be writing for too long than I care to, but i'll sum it up in a couple sentences.

Account sharing has been something gamers have done since the dawn of accounts, now i'm not talking about sharing with other people over an ambiguous screen name i'm talking real life friends, family, companions, life partners. In order to help them do something they have tried and done them self. Something that the current administration sees as something evil and would rather point out all the bad things that could happen. Every time the community asks for something it's always the same tired excuse

"It's extra work for the GMs" Well in that case maybe the GMs who are being picked should be the ones who WANT TO DO THE WORK not just people who rank a certain level on a popularity scale, and please don't tell me that popularity doesn't play a part in it because it does. if it didn't GMs names would be secret instead of advertised no one would know who they were.

So true, if you could be more tactful when asking for a Staff member to do something that would be awesome. As they do not work for you. Much appreciated.

    //on topic
I think the main reason for removing or changing the rule is the way it's enforced.
    • I doubt (and don't recall) Staff being actively scanning the logs to check for account sharing. In fact, nothing is being done about it until a person gets reported for possible account sharing. So bascically account sharing is allowed, as long as noone suspects you?
    • Most of the ban for account sharing I've seen were lack of knowledge of this rule. People with no bad intentions just transfering their items back and forth, just helping their friends. As where most of the rules have a clear dark feel (hacking, duping, misconduct...) account sharing may seem harmless for those who are not familiar with the TnC. As it was not enforced in the gMS.
    • Furthermore, checking if someone is in fact account sharing is more guess work than actual science. If the players have used the same computer to connect to their own accounts, well... Then they must be account sharing because they share the same MAC and IP adress but are two or more people. Or if two people make just one account, how are you going to prove this to be account sharing?
I don't think reasons should be given for account sharing. I think the above questions are more important as it reflects how possible account sharing is being handled, in a way that makes it fair for everyone.

Oh yes please allow account sharing! I beg you John he makes a good point! Finally I can go and scam people to a greater extent. Nowadays It's just scam them on few bucks or fame but I think this is important for the growth of scammers like me to allow account sharing.

I also like the "at your own risk" thing that way it will be easier for me to get away with it! Omg gawd i gunna be suuuu riech rite naowwww!!!@@11!!@!1!!

It sounds like you have a personal agenda that is clouding your opinion regarding GMs. In any case, I would really like to see you spend several days as a GM dealing with all of the issues we see.

Maybe you don't realize how much work being a GM entails. Let me take you through my day yesterday. Wake up at 5:30AM, check Skype to see what the staff has reported that I may need to look into. Eat, get dressed, go through the forums and try to answer everything and anything I can. Leave for work at 6:20AM. Arrive home from work at 4PM, go on the forums and Skype and basically repeat what I did in the morning. Leave at 6:30PM and return home at 8PM to 5PMs in my inbox, 345 Skype messages, and about 12 new threads in Character issues. Basically deal with all of this until I go to bed at 10PM.

If you didn't notice, every free moment was spent working on MapleRoyals and many of the GMs will echo a similar workflow. So please, do not tell us that we signed up to do even more work than we currently do.

@Gi - if you have a personal issue, PM me. Let's not keep sticking in jabs in posts.
