?

Are DrKs too weak for the effort they need to put in?

  1. Yes, they are too weak.

    48.7%
  2. No, they are fine as they are.

    51.3%

If that was the case, it still doesn't apply to heroes.
From 10 mins of testing, the highest dmg output I did was 71.4k no crit and 91.2k crit. Which is 127%. Also, even if I was unlucky and didn't get the rolls, there is no way I would hit even 100k (which is already less than 150% from 71.4)
And, even still, the fact remains that the crit dmg from drks is higher than heroes (Not just the gap between non-crit to crit, but the crit dmg itself too)

Hmm from asking another hero now I got a theory about why hero does weak damage in crit. Advanced combo multiplies your damage by 1.9 when you got a full combo.
Now my theory is that instead of calculating it as 260+140%=400 and then multipling it by x1.9 what it does is 260X1.9+140, so basically the crit bonus doesn't get increased by the combo attack.

If you calculate it this way your normal hit would be 260X1.9=494% damage while the crit one would be 494+140=634%
634/494= 1.28 so it seems extremely similar to the damage you posted and I think my theory is probably true.
If this is true then it explains why heroes lose to drks in 1vs1 (like that krex video with hero and drk) because you will lose at least 3-4% dps if combo doesn't affect your criticals, and it also means that heroes barely benefit from SE at all as it only gives them a damage increase of around 4% (while drks get around 12%)

can confirm what ayane said. Did a test with my hero and the damage shown highly favours 260*1.9+140.
Now I wonder if drk line dmg is (170+140)*2 or 170*2+140.

    EDIT:
    range.JPG
    my max range is 11491. This equates to a ((260+140)*1.9)% * 11491 = 7.6*11491 = 87331 max dmg with crit (ignoring defense)
    69902.JPG
but the highest i saw in 5mins was 69902. Using the formula, that @Ayane proposes, it equates to a (260*1.9+140)% * 11491 = 6.34*11491 = 72852 max dmg with crit (ignoring defense)

so 69902 dmg seems to favour the latter.

Ma dood, I'd give you a cookie if I could. This is the exact info I was looking for
    Well, that's whack then :[
Upon hearing this info, can we change it so that it scales with combo? <3

My calculation about dmg of brandish is:
    With SE:
    MAX crit dmg: (260% + 120% + 140%)* 130%* your range(11491 here) = 77679
260% is the basic dmg of brandish, 120% is added because of Combo Attack, +140% is crit dmg of SE, then multiplier *1.3 is your buff of Advanced Combo Attack(the calculation about ACA is not the same as Combo Attack)

    Without SE:
    MAX dmg: (260% + 120%)* 130%* your range(11491 here) = 56765

So dmg of hero increases about 5.5% when buffed with SE, while drk increases 12.3%.

By the way, may I know how you get the multiplier *1.9? And it's quite reasonable to test your dmg on snail/slime.:)

Yeah, I kinda forgot that I could test on snail/slime. I initially came across the 1.9 multiplier from martin's calculator. I believe the source for this is https://ayumilovemaple.wordpress.com/2009/09/06/maplestory-formula-compilation/

    Combo Multiplier, 6-10 orbs = [Advanced] Combo Attack % + 20% + (orbs - 5) * 4%

    So 220% (normal combo attack) +30% (aca) + 20% + (10-5)*4% = 290% --> 1.9 multiplier

Given the discrepancies in observed damage, I would reserve my judgement on how to intepret this though... I took a look at how SE affected corsair damage (corsairs have bullseye which gives 1.2 multiplier) and I do believe that it is (380+140)*1.2 instead of 380*1.2+140 since I got crit damages above the limits of 380*1.2+140.

Since I don't have drk to test with, will be nice if any drks would give their max range after attack pots and all and their max crit dmg with that range and with berserk

Is this even intended? While ironic since this thread is about buffing DK, it does sound really unfair for the Hero class with SE especially when brandish is 2hit vs buster 3hit

Keeping it this way seems fair for both classes . If they fix this for heroes, a drk buff will be inevitable to maintain the balance between the two.

I don’t agree. I think a buff with how se works for hero is needed.
Drks already outshine heroes with si, so why not fix/improve how se works for heroes? (Since we are talking party buffs here)
Imo, a buff for drks that they could get is having hex stack with atk pots
But if they do that, they should definitely at least improve the se calcs for Heroes

just because a class outshines another isnt a valid reason to buff the "weaker" class

nls is the predominant class in terms of dps but does that mean all the other dpsing classes should be buffed to the same lvl as nls? if so then every single class has to be reworked and it will be a neverending loop of requests from people asking to buff their main class

this topics main agenda is to discuss whether the effort to master a drk is worth the dps the class is dishing out. and the general consensus seems to be even though drks are the strongest warrior class under ideal conditions, the effort just isnt worth it especially when the disparity of dps dealt between heroes and drks isnt even that huge

@sparky95 and i briefly discussed about this topic and i agree with his points. i feel like the buff he suggested is reasonable but if the staff choose to not go through with it then both heroes and drks should remain untouched

Rip, when the informal context and the poor usage of the word “have” comes back to bite me.
I never said to buff any class to the extent that it reaches NL dps; however, buffing classes has already been done and will continue to be done as a part of Royals’ progression: NS with 50% serks, MMs snipe/strafe, pallys weapon cancel, and now soon to be shads. These are placed in order to help “balance” (loosely used here) classes, not to match NL dps (In fact, pretty sure none of these have atrophied the NL demand/supply) Atm it’s a NL bandwagon. No “normal” (loosely used again) party wants 3 wars 1 nl as opposed to 3 nls 1 war at zak/ht/toad/bgs/and pb if ever. There is already low incentive to make a non-nl/mage (warrior, essentially) class, unless you enjoy it or want to: be anti-mainstream, get a cheaper hp washing experience, grind at ob4, or be that 1 dude who is basically just that 1-warrior filter in every party.
Regardless, when I said “have” I didn’t mean to say it was imperative to add in that buff, just something in my opinion that would make the job more enjoyable to play without affecting other jobs too much, assuming they remained untouched. With crits already being a low rate, it wouldn’t drastically affect the difference (that is already there, albeit small) between drks/heroes. Also, I’m neglecting any sort of hassle that would be involved in placing such a buff as well.
Of course it is biased specifically towards Heroes as I did not mention Buccs, but feel free to express Bucc concerns too :D

Side note: I’m aware of the topic of this thread, but I couldn’t think of another place to address/inquire about the crit disparity between drks/heroes.

Edit: Replace “have” with “needed” oops
