I'm CaptainHeidi, a level 157 Corsair. I've done a few Zakum runs now. I've found that there's a lot of misconceptions about Sairs that I want to clear up because well, mutual understanding stops wars! In all seriousness though, it saves me having to explain all this in the altar to confused party members, and then losing my boat to the distraction. Or worse, having well-meaning party members kill all the summons that are hugging me! 1. Why do you ignore me when I ask for SI? I wish I could give you SI, but you see, Sairs don't have that skill. It's a Bucc skill. It's a shame I know, Sairs like having SI too because it works on battleship cannon! Sairs have no party skills (other than MW). Like the Hero, we are much more known for our self-sufficiency than our teamwork skills. On the plus side, this does mean we can save the day when the Zakum run is plagued by multiple disconnects. 2. What do you have to do to stay on your boat? A Sair's boat has HP. The exact amount of HP depends on the level of the battleship skill, and the level of the Sair. At level 135, most Sairs will have around 70k HP, and at level 200, most will have around 200k HP. Each time the Sair is hit while on their boat, that HP is reduced. Once it hits 0, the Sair is penalised by being unable to use their boat for 90 seconds. The strategy we use to keep our boat alive for longer is to dismount whenever zakum is about to use 1/1 (as that is the highest damage attack). It's not normally worth dismounting for the lower damage attacks because the downtime from dismounting is worse for overall DPS. Note that attacks hurt the Sair too. The boat isn't a shield. If I'm hit for 2000 damage while on my boat, both my boat HP and my own HP will go down by 2000. There are no healing potions that can be used on boats. 3. Why do you stand in the summons? Why don't you like me killing them for you? This one is slightly complex. There are a few things you need to understand about Sairs to be able to understand this strange behaviour. 1. Sairs have a really cool skill called Bullseye. We fire it at the target, and then as long as the target is in range, our attacks will only hit that target, even if there are other monsters in between us and the target. 2. Battleship cannon (our super powerful skill) works even if there are monsters really close/ on top of us. This means that unlike other ranged classes, summons don't stop us attacking Zakum, as long as our Bullseye is up. 3. When a character is hit by an attack, it's immune from other attacks for about a second. What this means is that if we're hit by a summon (low damage), we won't be hit by a 1/1 attack that happens within that immune time. So, by hiding in the summons we take constant low damage, which acts as a shield. This protects our boat from higher attacks. We can still attack the boss reliably because of Bullseye and the awesomeness that is Battleship Cannon. When hiding in summons, we don't need to worry about dismounting for 1/1 and so can instead just focus on a constant barrage of damage at Zakum. A Sair's DPS is at its highest when hiding in summons. I often stand on the right side of Zakum so that I can hide in summons. This is why I don't like the summons around me being killed. Sometimes I come back to the left when my boat is on cooldown. Burst fire doesn't work with monsters very close. I've been able to save multiple Zakum runs that would have failed otherwise. NL's become useless when the summons are out of control, yet Sair becomes more and more powerful. 4. Why do you not talk much during the run? Sairs have to pay attention to the boss animations so that they can quickly dismount from their boat if lots of damage is about to be done. At Zakum, it's 1/1 we watch for. Especially when we are HP washed and are using % potions! Talking is distracting, and kills our boat fast, and in turn our DPS. I love talking, and when I get asked questions about Sairs during the run it's tricky cause I want to answer, but it really hurts my DPS 5. Why do you not like getting healed? Sometimes, we use melting cheese or reindeer milk and keep our HP below the maximum. This is so that if we do get hit by a 1/1, the damage isn't as bad. 6. Why do you not like DrK's? If we are using % potions rather than melting cheese/ reindeer milk, then the higher HP caused by HP makes the % potions more effective. When 1/1 hits, more damage is done. This is bad! Perhaps also cause my old main was a DrK and I didn't enjoy it very much... 7. Why are you using burst fire instead of your boat? Probably because the boat is on cooldown (as it broke). This will go on for 90 seconds. Burst fire + Octopi still does a lot of damage. Don't worry, the Sair isn't being lazy. And they will more than make up for it once their boat is back! 8. Why do you not care when the SE disconnects? When the SE disconnects, it doesn't affect Sairs near as much as it affects NLs due to different damage calculations. I actually secretly like when it happens -- it means I'm almost guaranteed to white 3rd body and it inflates my ego and makes me feel important because I can save the run even when the NL's are struggling! Like I said, the play style of a Sair is self-sufficiency and not teamwork...
I love when other people d/c or when SE die & d/c. That is the time for Sair to shrine! Tbh, a lv 150+ sair with apple/choco can solo 3rd body in less than 15 mins if they know how to play a sair, while other job mostly fail the run if that situation happen to them!
Yes, I noticed on a recent run that when my boat was broken, damage on 3rd body went way down. It suggested to me that my boat was doing a good 70%+ of the total damage. Gotta use some of the chocos obtained from this event to do my first zak solo
Cool, I'll try to keep the summons alive when I party with Sairs then. I tend to just nuke them out of oblivion the second they spawn. tfw you have to start top right as sair
Oh yes, that's another one. People not understanding why top platforms, and especially top right, really aren't great for Sairs
I just want to say that sairs are really cool, and all the power to you for knowing your class so well. I hope to also have a personal pirate ship someday. Ahoy, motherfuckers!
I suppose at least out of all the ranged they're the least wasteful at it. With bullseye they don't have some of their shots get wasted, on my nightlord every few throws on the top right platform my stars will try to go for the 2nd lowest arm and do nothing at all = = But having to keep repositioning is a total snore, I just dismount and recoil shot backwards after every 2 hits.
