I have found myself staring at terrible English grammar recently. It's not of disrespect, but do people seriously lack the ability to use English? I mean, at least Google translate your first language and get a decent English result instead of trying to use the English you know =_= Especially the Ban Appeals, most of them look like they scrawled through them, and just wrote down in caps, or w/e weird lettering they have. It appears to me terribly immature, can't they just properly post according toe the rules if they want a chance to be appealed @_@ I do understand that people have language barriers and difficulties, but Google Translate...
People need to understand that if one wants to formulate a good argument (not just for a ban appeal), they have to use proper English - at least to the best of their ability anyways. Of course, in some cases, even impeccable grammar can't save you, but "pls unban me gm" doesn't have a good ring to it, I find, and people generally believe somewhat-professionally-written arguments over fragments reminiscent of MSN-messenger chats. This is the forums people. In game, I don't mind, since sometimes chatting is time-rushed (I'm especially guilty of this), but here, you can take the extra two seconds to make sure your writing is somewhat readable.
I know...I won't point out any names, but 6 separate double space lines, each consisting of no longer than 7 words, and is in complete caps. With large amounts of slang, like...seriously? You call that a Ban Appeal?
Bad English is fair enough if the player in question really can't speak English well. We're aware that a number of Spanish-speaking players (in particular) really struggle with English, and we're fortunate enough to have Manny as a GM, since he is able to help them in Spanish and translate into English for the rest of the staff. If someone whose native language is neither Spanish nor English is having problems, they are welcome to ask a friend to make a post on their behalf if necessary. What I do mind is when people are downright rude or their entire ban appeal consists of complaining about how unfairly they've been treated. If you think you've been wrongly banned, at least tell us why you think we've made a mistake - preferably not all in block capitals! Also, there's no good reason for posting a ban appeal entirely in meme/net-speak. >_<
Should it be a rule to post in an eloquent manner or a GM will ignore/request a proper format? It kind of is, but not as strict.
It's already stated in the Ban Appeal section that players should post using the proper format, and we normally request someone to repost/correct their post using the proper format. The only time we start ignoring ban appeals is when we've already made it clear to someone that they're not being unbanned and they still carry on raging at us.
If they keep raging on... THIS IS GOLDEN: "Congratulations, you've won an all expenses paid ban from the forums!" -John the Mr. GM
But yeah I agree, even people with proper English education, can you seriously not understand how raging doesn't exactly help you get back into the game unbanned? lo;
Bear in mind that neither does a seventy-six page treatise on the injustice of banishment written in the most grammatical of English if you don't have a case to support it.
I just don't get why they are raging when they haven't even made a point yet. Every goddam raging convict in the ban appeal section always complains on every judgement but they got nothing to backup their innocence. OMG UNBAN I DONE NUTHING! PLOX! WHY GM SO UNFAIR?!
