Updating to v83

Don't exaggerate just to make a point. Of course no one is trashing Matt's work. This thread is just a simple "Hey, we'd like this, if you ever want to do it!".

Nostalgia has been discussed in this thread as well, and many differ from your view, David. To me nostalgia comes from the old good things you can do in game, for example LPQ, which can be done in both versions. The fundamentals remain the same before big bang.

There was ever so slightly a need for players in Blink's post, I doubt anyone seriously is desperate for players in here.

Wow I sure did exaggerate a lot huh? ) I did not say the word literal lightly. I'm sorry you weren't here to see all the work that Matt and the rest of the staff has put in to making the server what it is now, but if anything I was understating it.

 

That has nothing to do with it.

Steve Jobs put all lot more hard work into Apple, and when the company became complacent, Apple was nearly lost, so Jobs came back and made changes to save it from bankruptcy. I'm not saying Matt is being complacent, I'm saying that the idea of change should NEVER be put in a black Voldemort box.

This is irrelevant to what hard work Matt has put in, which is not something I take for granted because I've been working side by side with devs on at least 25 servers and know that they can be consumed by the workload at times.

This is simply a suggestion put into the suggestion section, suggesting a source update to v83 to see what people would think. Yes, I emphasize on the word 'suggestion'.

You are talking from your perspective and making a generalization that everyone shares that view, clearly they don't as their are people on this thread who also show their support for the idea.

Anyway, maybe it's best there was a poll instead.

 

I can't see any harm in having a poll, but at the end of the day, the decision has to rest with Matt himself, since it's his server. I strongly suspect that Matt has plans to add more content/events to the server, and tbh, I think he's done a great job with Maple Royals so far.

Just so people know, I never plan on going to DMS because it's been beaten into a juice with an extremely established top end community. If I'm done here then I'm quitting servers because I like the general population here, however as much as I really want to play, my buddy list of 58 active people has dimmed down to around 6 active people and it's not because they are level 10 and just quit, they are all heavy gamers on this server, they just got bored like I am.

I love this server, and I really don't want to leave, but I have absolutely nothing left to do in general because v62 is an extremely top ended bishop centered server and unless you have access to that, you won't go anywhere.

Here's my case to you and I find it hard to refute without being arrogant because there's a reason why Nexon updates and there's a reason why v83 is quite different; because people disliked v62. Big bang came on the other hand for the sake of money and expansion so that's irrelevant.

So if you can't see that something is wrong then I cannot persuade you any further. Low levels trying to grind to 120 of which I've added and deleted due to them quitting (this is around 25 people); give up due how boring it is, and how difficult it is without the support of a bishop or priest. It is unrealistic to base the growing potential of an entire community, on a single job in a single class.

The work you've done on the source Matt is very neat and the stability is great and I don't understand why some people think that what I'm saying is taking credit away from that. What I'm saying is that Nexon made an extremely horrible game design up and around v62 and people cannot deny that. I propose v83 not because it completely nullifies the impact of bishops, but because with the added content, it provides more balance and opportunity for other jobs than v62.

As a solo 136 Drk who has no access to bishops and is trying to find a place in the community. I find it distasteful that it has to be this difficult and I will probably leave like most of my colleagues unless things change and balance. This is a ridiculously unbalanced server and the monopolization of bosses like BF by the top end means that growth in this server, will be limited and in my opinion, inverted.

So enjoy this slice of butter and open your mind up if you are one of those people who are benefiting from the bishop wagon, because most of us don't and you wouldn't know how much of a turn off from this entire game that is.

I hope Matt and the other devs take this seriously because I wouldn't make a post this long if I didn't genuinely care for this server. So be it v83 or not, there is a major imbalance issue which should be addressed and v83 might be the only way seeing that this server want to emulate GMS.

PS. I know for a fact that most of the top 100 has alternative bishop accounts and I'm not incriminating them or anything, I'm sure they'd gladly share this information, just try to make a point.

I like v.62 actually and i dont think v.83 makes it better. It only brings more hackers and duplicators in the server.

 

I believe that it is the atmosphere this server has that is so special. So changing it to another server and wiping it would be something exciting for quite a lot of players.

Unfortunately Maple Royals cannot stay 0.62 for ever if you think about it. The content of the 0.62 version is just fairly low, whilst the e.g. 0.83 or 0.75 will increase it.

A whipe would be a good idea, even though it will hurt players that have put much time in it.

I'd say Maple Royals should go for it, as the Royal and Loyal players here will stay if they want to. The atmosphere is great in Maple Royals and I believe won't change because of this change.
