Hi everyone, just a subject I wanted to discuss with others and hear a few opinions on. I used to have friends, both on Maple and in the real world, who have basically ruined my life - in many ways. I'm okay with being social, but I'm not always. When I go out with friends, I try to avoid contact with those I know will get me in trouble. Thing is, friends who dont get you in trouble, and dont try and ruin your life by taking you to things like drugs and crime - friends like that, are a rare thing these days. Atleast in the society I live in. Thats why, I just wanted to ask if you can share your point of view on this subject, and how did you find the right friend who wouldnt cause you problems? The places I go to - dont seem to offer such friends. My girlfriend I dont see her everyday, and I cant consider her a normal friend, I just want normal friends who respect me and arent inclined to doing terrible things.
First of all, it's okay to not be social all the time. The society you live in sounds pretty terrible if having people point you to those things are so common. Try to leave it if you can. Or at least isolate yourself. I've never really run into "friends" who gave me these issues and if I did, I stopped hanging with em. The beauty of friends is that you can pick and choose. You can choose what kind of crowd to associate yourself with. If the places you're going to don't offer such friends then stop going to those places. You want friends who respect you but clearly they don't respect themselves. Focus on you. You're all you can count on in the end. Start working out. Meet friends in a martial art. Anything. Be your own friend. See your family. I hope you find peace, brother. Btw, it's a good thing you don't see your gf all the time but I feel like she should at least be considered a friend at least a little..?
I also thought of this idea you brought up, to go to some mutual hobby and meet new friends there. Most likely people who go to the same place I like to go to, which includes a specific hobby, are not people who are criminals or involved with illegal things. My girlfriend isnt like any other normal girlfriend. She has a disability, and I accepted her as she is. I didnt want to dump her and make her sad. She's not on a wheelchair, but, she doesn't speak and behave like any other normal person. Besides, I must tell you at least in my country/region, women tend to take a long time to open up, and it could take over a month + before you can talk to her about things like sex, marriage, or living together.

taking part in hobbies and activities where you can analyze people behavior and select those you can get along with, personalities u feel fine having around. btw, old friends may harass u for letting they go but that's what's good for u so don't think too much whatever they say. overthinking is unhealthy if you do so on lonely times and you're going to be alone for a while till u find the rigth friends to hang out with. don't fear loneliness, it's a bless and helps u appreciate what we have and the friendships we forge in the way, learn about who you really are and what you do really want, set goals on friendships and be patient while they open up
