It means you've been MAC banned

Pretty sure you wouldn't even reach character selection if the MAC adress is indeed banned (if this is wrong, I think it should be changed to stop people from logging in). It looks more like connectivity issues to me, when selecting your character a new session with the server is opened. If your connection with the server is too slow your session will timeout, and you'll get that screen. So, my question, does your screen appear to freeze after selecting the character and then you get disconnected?
(this might be wrong: the timeout is set to 15 seconds, so if this is the case you'll disconnect aproximatly 15 seconds after double clicking your character)

In the meanwhile I suggest you simply try to log in again, and also check out this thread as it will give Staff more info (about your connectivity) to help.

    What's mac ban?
I just DC straight away after double clicking my character. I could play before the halloween patch but now I can't.

mac ban means you've been banned. maybe you should try a ban appeal.

In every server I know, MAC ban is checked at character select. If you are also IP banned, it would reject you at the login itself, but only MAC ban let you go all way to the Character select. From what I know, MAC is only received (from user) once you have fully logged in, which is why I believe a check before logging in is pretty much impossible (unless you maybe use data from the database from previous logins or something).

If the statement of him being MAC banned is true than basically his IP is already changed but his MAC isn't yet, which is why he can get through the login but get disconnected by the server from the still standing MAC ban.

However, I saw a thread earlier few days ago with people getting the exact same issue (can't find it ATM) where they pretty much had the same issue and were not MAC banned (server issues). So yes, your claim of connection issues can still be valid, but I am pretty sure (unless Royals heavily changed this) MAC ban is checked once you have selected your character.

You need to disable your loopback adapter.

@Kimberly, I have checked this and indeed MAC data is only collected at character selection. However, once collect it's stored and the login function does check for the stored data. So basically it's only possible to reach the character selection once with a banned MAC adress.

@Sila, I'm dissapointed to see you think Kimberly's post (based on general ideas) has more value than mine (based on working with the source) ~f12.

Loopback is indeed a possibility, I found this reply on how you can disable it.

I 'liked' it because it's true, and that's the little bit of information that I know. I don't know how the code or source and what not works and you know this. I just know mac bans are 99% of the time the reason behind d/cing at character select like that. I was far too tired to write a reply since that was posted at 4 a.m my time...and its currently 7 a.m and I've not slept for ~24 hours. "Liking" a reply is my way of bookmarking it to come back and reply later sometimes too.
