What is Character Repeat? Character Repeat is a default windows function that repeats keystrokes of held keys, for example picking up items while holding Z. You don't need to press Z for each individual item, but rather you can hold the key in order to pick up many items/mesos faster than you could without holding it down. To be clear; Holding down Z to pick up items is not an in-game Mapleroyals function, but rather a windows function interacting with Mapleroyals, this is self evident by the fact that changing the repeat rate affects how fast item pick up happens in game. With that out of the way, I'll get onto the main point of the thread. The Question Is changing your default rate of character repeat allowed? For context, these two clips showcase me picking up 82 items while doing nothing but holding Z. Default rate: 10 item pickups per second Adjusted rate: 56 item pickups per second (Should be 60) As you can clearly see, the speed difference is staggering. By adjusting your Character Repeat rate, you can in fact loot items faster than your pet can. While this is something that I would wager to say everyone in the game uses, almost nobody has used it to its full potential like I showcase in the second clip (Again, this is me holding Z and nothing more, no 3rd party programs involved.) If adjusting your Character Repeat rate is allowed, then pet loot would be less mandatory for players and leechers, and afk summon farming will be less tedious, as well as it's just a nice quality of life change. On the downsides not everyone would know how to do this (However, if it is deemed to be allowed, I will post in the guides section a detailed explanation on how to adjust your repeat rate as much as you want.) And so, I would like GM discretion as well as player thought on the legality of Character Repeat before I explain how to do it.
Item looting is the big one, I made an earlier post regarding how this could be used with dropping mesos, but after some testing I found that character repeat does not apply to mouse keys when rebounded to the numpad, there is a way to adjust it so that it can, but I won't explain how to do it in the guide I would make on how to go to the max, and it's very doubtful anyone would figure it out without a lot of looking and familiarity with registry. The benefit to meso dropping is that would be inherently in the guide is pasting the mesos into the drop box would be more consistent since it'd repeat it roughly 60 times a second opposed to 10, but it wouldn't help with actually dropping them faster. Beyond that, this affects how quickly you can use items bound to a key, so I suppose it could be useful for opening a bunch of event boxes very quickly. I can't think of many other advantages beyond those. I can't speak for every job, but I don't think any skill receives any particular benefit from this, since most skills have animations that can't be skipped. All in all, picking up items is definitely the biggest advantage to this, and I guess spamming a single letter in chat quickly. If it helps for your testing & understanding, I can Pm you a rough guide on how to adjust character repeat
Yes, however there are ways to make it so that doesn't happen, you can set both the speed of the repeat as well as a buffer timer of "after holding for X seconds start repeating". This also affects things outside of maple since it's a Windows feature
I support allowing it because I think it could create a lot of fuss if it isn't allowed (what if people are already doing this, or already had that setting on their computer for something else, not realising it was affecting their royals play and against the rules?)
Has been discussed and we will allow the use of this feature. However, we will not give support for possible issues that could arise depending on what the feature is used for in-game, e.g. client disconnections from spamming packets to the server faster than normal.
Maybe Jacob can include that warning in the new post of character repeat tutorial (if making one) Client disconnections from using Character Repeat will not be refunded
