Now this is definitely going to be an unpopular feedback for a lot of reasons. But I think a reduction in the number of channels makes a lot of sense currently. The population seems to average about 1000 players concurrently and if we were to be realistic, many of those online will be mule/alt characters. Many areas become uninhabited because players can easily find training spots in the most optimal areas rather than be encouraged to look for alternatives. Not to mention a chunk of that concurrent population consists of hacking characters. With the current state of things, I think we should reduce the number of channels back to the original 14 or at least 15. I do realize this could potentially cause more KS reports or bring back awful practices of map selling among some of the really popular maps. However, I think this can also encourage lesser alternatives that are currently being overlooked, if those alternatives can be buffed to become more appealing. Personally I believe there are surpluses, for example, too many bigfoots around and the consistent down-trending prices of HT books. There are too many free channels available that don't allow for a more competitive game and market. I also believe it can make a small but necessary impact to the hacking situation as there are too many channels and areas to look through overall. Of course 20 channels is the nostalgic number and this is the biggest maplestory private server around, but its still nowhere near the population of the old days. With some of my reasoning, I believe we should reduce the channel count until the concurrent population at least doubles. But until that happens the question is why do we really need so many channels?
I support this. Going for a stroll nowadays 90% of the people i encounter are leechers/botters/hackers. Hardly anyone trains these days, making 20 channels redundant.
Personally against this. Couldn't find an empty channel at ulu1 to leech myself just few days ago. I don't wanna go back to the cancer day of map selling/buying like when I just started to play Royals and had to buy GS5 map just to train my cleric. Hacking and botting are definitely an alarming issue that needs to be dealt with but I don't think removing/limiting what we have on hands is the way to go.
^ This Also bossing. There are bosses which are really hard to find even with 20 channels. Reducing the amount of channels would make boss hunting even harder.
I think less channels would be great, I personally absolutely hate how everything in a "nostalgic" server is being min-maxed. Any map that isnt considered nearly optimal for whatever it is people are trying to do is completely neglected. Feeling preassure to play a bit longer because you managed to get hold of that perfect map, going to alternative maps, generally having more player encouters are just a few things i'd really like. If I had the choice i'd probably go extreme and limit the channels to 5-10 As for hackers, I don't think it would make a significant difference. But still a relevant one. For example blatant gold tooth farmers would have a harder time, people would feel more discouraged when there's fewer channels to hide in.
I believe extra channels are heavily contributing to the power creep in the server, accelerating its aging rate. Competition is an inevitable factor in MMORPG. With current 20 channels, there is too much room for hardly any competition. There are only 2 maps out of thousands which all 20 channels ever get filled - ulu1 because of the insane spawn rate and good drops that can feed duo mages better than leech selling and Vodoos because of unreplaceable stopper demand. There are too many fat-exp-area bosses that favor end game hunters, especially rwters, who power level using insane gear. It is increasing the gap between funded veterans vs newbies. Many complained during 2017~2018, when there were above 1k population, that they hardly meet another player outside fm because everyone is spreaded out in 20 channels. If average online characters are 1000 at a given time, /20 channels = 50. If we take out hackers and multi clients, it's even less. How many maps are there in royals? 20 channels implies only 50 average occupation per channel meaning chances of interaction are extremely scarce. If we look at current maple, be it GMS or KMS, they updated everything to provide utter convenience to individual players. People no longer have to compete for stuff because majority of features can be accomplished alone, without much interaction. Nexon releases more content after content to fill the lack of interaction. I personally found old source, with more people but less channels, more enjoyable. Things were much more competitive but the achivements were more rewarding.
S> ulu1 map 50m I don't train, sell leech or farm here I do know I can get free money so that I live here. And there must be some ppl willing to pay for that. You will see more and more smega about this ridiculous idea in the coming future if the channels becomes fewer.
I just want to remind everyone that this suggestion is for a temporary change relative to the concurrent server population and several other factors related to surplus. I think reducing a few channels won't impact the amount of wild bosses that spawn currently. Especially when theres so many around to farm for nx, as well as enough free bigfoots around to kill without the need to grind on normal mobs. I also think its a poor mentality to mainly consider the popular maps like ulu since they can become full even in the current 20 channel range. I don't think this game was meant to serve just one area and I think there should be alternatives, even if they're not as good. Theres a huge surplus elsewhere. I do understand alot of areas got nerfed since new source implementation so it just makes the alternatives weaker but theres alot to consider going into this. Many skele maps are currently open and even inhabited by hackers. Gs2 and gobies for example, are no longer optimal so people dont really go there. This is the mentality that I believe should change.
I mean... unfortunately, you can't do anything but only make them leave there. The fewer channels, the more this kind of selfish ppl. That's the only difference after this change.
Am I missing something here? If you afk you lose ownership. Set very basic rules to this, if you break them or abuse them ( which is gonna be clear pretty quick in maps where its even slightly relevant ) you get banned. Or whatever.
Skele, ulu2 and gs2 were almost always filled in old source and map selling was regarded a norm. One could have done what you suggested here but I don't recall many doing that. Why? Probably because one could spend their time doing more efficient things than waiting endlessly to snatch a vacant map. If channels are reduced and every channels are populated, current owners of those maps will hold them tight and sell them or pass on to their guildies/friends without letting a pedestrian take over. The effort one needs to make to snatch a new map for pure sale purpose, without leeching or faming is actually bigger than what one may imagine. One might have to wait for hours for an opportunity, not to mention all the tedious ccing to look for them.
And this would be a problem in henesys hunting ground 3 where no one will ever spot the abusers? In maps where this is an even slightly relevant factor people won't last very long pulling this shit 24/7. We're not in court. You clearly abuse/workaround/"exploit" if you will, you get banned Only real issue I can see here is the topic of friends/guilds passing on maps. Potentially locking out anyone who wont participate in such methods
Don't you really know the reason why more and more ppl come to ulu1 and ulu2 or even not to farm? Let me tell you why. There are much fewer ppl buying leech than before. Yes, you can come back to farm in skele. Your salary is the 60 m mesos/hr at most. I don't think it's enough to make me want to farm there without selling leech. (and you can check petri anytime you're free. How many ppl are buying leech?)
