    So back when I was a wee elementary schooler, one of my favorite activities was surfing hidden-street.net to look at all the high-level monsters that I'd never see in-game on account of being a shitty lv23 bowman who only trained at HHG. I remember the names of every single monster, and they don't match the ones that were just introduced in Royals in the Neo Tokyo update.

    Vergamot --> Bergamot (a type of orange)
    Nibergen --> Nibelung (king of the land of mist in German mythology)
    Auf Haven --> Aufheben (German: to transcend)
    Dark Auf Haven --> Oberon (moon of Uranus)
    Eru Water --> Iruvata
    Protoload -- Prototype Lord
    Afterload --> Afterlord
    Overload --> Overlord
    Nameless Magic Monster --> Gatekeeper Nex

    Perhaps what we got is a mistranslation? The old names I remember make a lot more sense IMO, since they were words with actual semantic meaning.

    These are the names the mobs got in Maple sea, where neo toyko was taken. GMS got neo city, a lower level zone

    This doesn't address my concern in any way. One set of names is clearly the original, and the other set looks like it was mistranslated by someone who didn't realize that German was an actual language.

    If you has to choose, which one would it be?

    I hear you. We considered these very things when we worked on the area, and eventually settled on renaming just a few of the monsters, namely:

    Afterload became Afterlord,
    Overload became Overlord,
    Protoroad became Protolord.

    We let the other monsters keep their silly MapleSEA names. You may find the choices slightly arbitrary, which they were. We simply gave some consistency to the non-Maverick robots' names.

    The only exception to your case I would say is Nameless Magic Monster. I can find no record of it in the original files being referred to as Gatekeeper Nex. Nor does it fit in with the storyline of Zipangu and Asia particularly well.

    Personally I think of these phonetic spellings as pieces of Maple History, especially considering the area was imported from Japan.

    "Eru Water" is probably the name that bothers me the most. I'm almost certain that most people would demand that it be changed if they knew that the original name was "Iruvata".
