Selling maps made impossible to get to a good training spots in the mid to end game. this is really frustrating trying to train in petri and looking through all channels like 4 times just to see a sea for mages holding the maps hostage until someone buys the channel.... I know it was hard to find maps before but now its much worst. especially for newer player who dont have the funds to buy leech or just wanna train themselves.
I must agree, it is annoying when you're wanting to grind or leech and there are no free maps on channels and feel that your only option is to buy a map or forfeit grinding that day or try again later. Made more annoying when there's somebody surfing about just looking for empty channels to sell to make a quick few mill.. there's no need to sell maps.
Why do they have to be the same training speed? If you're of the mindset you have to maximize % per hour, then you shouldn't be complaining about buying a map from someone to hit that top number. If you don't care about getting the absolute most out of every minute of grinding, there are dozens of other maps that are fun to train in.
You aren’t entitled to training at the best maps with optimal EXP rates at your leisure. If you want to train at the best map, take the time/effort to find one (or buy it)—put in the work. Otherwise, go train at a suboptimal location where you don’t need to put in an effort to find it or pay for it. That simple. This mindset that everybody needs to have access to everything ideal without any added effort is so fucking whack. The same person selling a map had to go through the same obstacles to attain it as you do. There is nothing unfair about this at all. Go to Newties, go to the map before and after the traditional Skeles map, go to Grims, go to Himes, Gobies, etc. — they are all viable and were once the best and only training spots available for high leveled players. Slower than skeles? Undoubtedly. Also easier to get a map . You get access to what you put in the effort to attain. Don’t wanna put in the time/effort needed to find a free Skeles map? You don’t deserve the best EXP rates possible and those who are willing to put in the time/effort do. If all players were unwilling this wouldn’t be a problem, but for every lazy and entitled casual there’s a competitive player who will map hunt for as long as it takes (as clearly seen by how full Skeles are 24/7).
You could always try sniping it from them too. Just camp a couple low activity maps and use ~mapowner to see when ownership ends and just attack a mob and its your map now. If you're not willing to put in time/money, you're not gonna get top maps. You could start your ToT quests, one of the green monks I believe drops Helm INT 60% which can make you some money. You also get the quest exp for killing mobs and they now even have a potion vendor and warp to later maps once you reach them to skip all the walking.
I don't like the selling of maps either, but it has nothing to do with training. I just don't think it's right. :/ If you're done with a map, just leave. But eh, people will be people. The only real issue I see is something that was mentioned above: people scanning channels for a free map just to make some money, but they were never training on that map. If it were possible to require a minimum amount of time of map ownership in order to sell, that might help, but I really don't see a way to enforce that. Oh well. The one other issue is that some of the popular maps (ulu in particular) are required for a boss prequest. I don't necessarily need or want to train on those maps (mostly because they are too populated ), but if I want to Krex I need to spend some time on one of those maps. It's more of a headache than it should be because of this map thing. But again, people will be people... >.> In practice it's not really a big deal. I guess I'm an idealist though.
Just ask for their ETC. Unless they are also doing Krex prequests, they will gladly give it to you. I've given hundreds of stacks of ETC away to people during my time leeching. Then try training during slower hours.
Wasn't Ninto Maps purposely buffed so mages can't leech there, and its made for people to train at? If people aren't using it, plz remove the element immunity.
Tip to I/L mages Oblivion at temple of time. Common training spot for me. They are weak to ice, so you don't need extremely high int to one hit them. They give the most exp in the game I think, excluding neo tokyo mobs. If you train at oblivion 5, you might also see Lyka for a potential 5k nx card OwO
i dislike map selling as well. there was a ps that i played years ago where map and fm spot selling were bannable and it was great but doesn't seem viable here given that there are so many players these days competing for spots, maps, items, etc. by not allowing map selling, it could be even harder for you to get a map since people who are at optimal training spots for 4+ hours a day would just get friends to hold the map for them or pass it onto someone they know instead on a brighter note, just know that there are still players who would gladly just leave once they're done or give the map to you for free
As much as I dislike map selling/buying, there's nothing particularly wrong with it. Plus how would the staff even keep track? Naturally, if you forbid it you won't see any smegas so they'll just sell to their buddies, guild or someone hopping into their channel asking to buy the map. That's way too much work. So yeah, if you're like me who doesn't want to encourage map selling, just don't buy or sell them in hopes of reducing the market.
First of all, that is literally untrue. Second of all, OP is literally making the case for regulations on map selling in the interest of newer players to have more equitable opportunities to train at optimal locations. I don't understand the dismissive attitude this thread is getting. Telling OP to go train somewhere else is as lazy of an argument as it is an irrelevant one. The whole point is that map selling in this state essentially exists as a direct exploitation of the limitations of the mapowner function. People in this community have not only repeatedly complained of issues with this function, they have offered multiple simple solutions to combat it (eg. mapowner lost on cc, mapowner duration decrease, etc.) as well. I mean, why even bother fixing anything in this server then? Hyperinflation? Just make more money! Class imbalance? Just make a NL! OP made a good-faith effort to highlight an issue in this server and deserves to be properly heard. And if not, then this whole section of the forums is moot. That's what we've been doing here all this time, bringing up issues and fixing them. EDIT: This is not to say that I actively support an inclusion of map selling as a bannable offense (to be honest, I don't think I do). I mainly want to reiterate what I said earlier about the simple and intuitive solutions that can help reduce the exploitative nature of the mapowner function, which would lead to discouraging the practice of map selling without necessarily forbidding it.
I'd like to start by saying that I've never bought or sold a map in my 7 years here, whatever internet points that earns me. I don't see where map selling benefits older players? If you're talking about the cost, 10m-15m is a joke to earn on this server for something completely optional. Comparing map selling to inflation, class imbalance, or any other major issue is hyperbole. Inflation affects the entire server as you virtually can't not participate in the market, and NLstory kills class diversity which can bar people from certain content based on the class they picked. Its mountains to mole hills. Yes, there a lot of suggestions to change mapowner, that doesn't mean they are good ones. Map lost on cc? What does that accomplish? People will just conduct whatever business they have on the channel they're in to keep mapowner, a very slight inconvenience at best. Idk if theres a rampant issue of 1 person holding 3 or 4 maps at highly contested places (please teach me your secrets if you can obtain and hold multiple Ulu maps), but I haven't heard anything about that, so what does this accomplish? Screw over misting FP Mages at Ulu? Neat. Decrease duration? Its already only 3 mins, barely enough time to power wash urine out of your bladder and grab a water bottle. Whats the magic number? 2 mins? 1 min? Should you be forced to play nonstop in order to hold a map? These "simple" solutions become a lot less simple when you start discussing the actual ramifications beyond the surface. Please relax on the melodrama, OP is being heard and the Feedback forum isn't moot, as evidenced by the 20+ replies to this thread and the massive discussions on pretty much every thread posted here. The fact of the matter is that OP is not entitled to the map he wants when he wants it. Even if its scummy, that person owns that map and earned it by buying/sniping/just getting there at the right time, and they are allowed to do whatever they want with it. You, nor anybody else, is allowed to tell anybody what they can and can't do with things that they own and have rightfully earned, even if that ownership is temporary, as long as it remains solely in-game aka no RWT. On top of everything else, this is only even an issue because of the quarantine and massive spike in player base, yet the suggestions to change mapowner are permanent. The dismissive attitude is because you do not have to train there and everything about this is completely optional. There are more than 2 good maps to grind on, God forbid you explore. @amirnevo, if you are having trouble finding Ulu 1/2 maps, they recently just buffed Gobys, which are at the same level range and have solid EXP and have an easy to navigate map. If you are having trouble finding a Petri map, start your ToT quests, it was also recently buffed to contain a potion vendor and warps to later maps so you don't have to walk (you can also make some money here off drops). There are teleport spots on every map to allow efficient movement. You can also use the Library on the home page or https://bbb.hidden-street.net/ to find other mobs in your level range to compare EXP:HP ratios.
