Hello all reading, this is regarding the prevalent issue of virus detection After what I found to be sufficient evidence to negate the warning messages for the files, I deactivated my mse (Microsoft security essentials) for the installation and created an exception for MapleRoyals in the scan. After a few weeks of playing Royals, my computer became heavily infected. I had it for 2+ years before Royals with no issues. I had to get my computer wiped and reset in order to nuke the infection. I am not insinuating Royals is the culprit. I was just wondering if any other such problems have occurred for anyone else? I am wanting to DL Royals again as it's my favorite game ever and play it regularly as well as socialize with my guild. However, I also don't want to risk another infection to my Asus G series laptop. I'm willing to write off the infection to another source and have done significant forum research before installing the first time to verify, but now I thought I'd make my own thread to see if any similar thing had occurred to anyone else. Just want to be 100% positive before re-installing Royals! All feedback appreciated
I had Microsoft defender active and it found MapleRoyal files was high risk trojans, i deleted Defender and couldn't be happier.
I've not had an antivirus running actively on my computer for a few years, and have not had any virus infections, nor malware, etc. If you're a conscientious computer user and be careful of what sites you visit & what you download, and have adblock/noscript addons running for your browser, the chances of becoming infected lessen quite drastically.
Right. I'm very certain it was from some other site, I just wanted to do a final survey to see if anyone had the same thing. I did intense research on the forums prior to initial installation and feedback was all good. That coupled with the amazing staff in my time Mapling I don't have any reason to suspect Royals of the problem. The whole incident just gave me a shock (laptop is my baby), but I'll probly re-install Royals soon...can't live long without my fix lol!
MapleRoyals is not infected, I can direct you to a program that is free of charge to help keep your laptop safe (barely has any false positives either) https://www.malwarebytes.org/
I think I"m ready for installation...it's been a while so I forget but does the main download page have all I need for the current patch for windows? and do I download the client or the setup....god its been a while
I have the same laptop as you, so I know *just* how you feel. Mine's an Asus g50vt-x5 and I've had it for a while now, done everything I need it to.
Some tips for keeping your computer malware free: If you're using firefox (or other browser that supports), set all your addons to ask to activate. (This saves you from malicious websites that use flash and java or other plugin to download malware on to your computer). A great browser extension is MyWot. It is a website trusting service that uses user votes to rate websites based on safety. This extension adds circles next to most links in your browser so if it's not green, you know the website could be unsafe! Add mvps host file entries to your host file. http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.htm (if you need help, let me know!) When Clicking Things On a Website, Always Be Aware Of The Address Location Of What You're Clicking On! (usually a pop-up on the bottom of your screen). Do Not Click When The Address Is One That Is Not The Website You Are On Unless You Are Sure It Is A Link To An External Website. (This is how you identify what is an advertisement (link to potentially malicious website) when searching for the download button on a website. haha) Lastly, when downloading somewhat sketchy files, atleast use www.virustotal.com and upload the file before opening to see if it's a known malicious program.
