Hi all, Due to many servers crashes recently that made me wonder why don't you (MaplyRoyals GM's) use Active and Passive servers mechanism? I believe most of you are aware of the methodology behind it but to simplify, this is running 2 servers in parallel that can either user load balancer and if not than once 1 server fails for any reason, addressing new users will be navigated to the other server. This will prevent downtime. If you want to further elaborate on this, feel free to reach out. Galyo.
not necessarily. There are some optimizations within it but that's more technical and detailed... I think that AWS has a really good algorithm that manages this A/P and failover. I can provide more details if required..
I’ve played on and off for 6-7 years... never noticed an issue with excessive downtime. Most crashes happen on the host side, so give them your advice. Welcome to MapleRoyals lol, just enjoy the game!
Hi @Gangsta thanks for sharing, I believe that 2-3 hours is a lot and we can improve it and get better. Anyway i do enjoy a lot the game Galyo.
If you wanna provide suggestions on the running of server, shouldn't you just provide the details here on how it could work out instead of waiting them to reach out to you?
well I think that's about 20 min talk so rather do it live.. anyway, AWS has tons of references. Dave if you're interested you can find some information here: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/Route53/latest/DeveloperGuide/dns-failover-types.html
@galyo Sorry about some of the immediately negative responses... parts of the MapleRoyals community is pretty toxic. I love your suggestion. I'm wondering what kind of downtime you are thinking about limiting? Do you mean not having downtime in between updates? I agree that, properly implemented, this would definitely be doable! I think it would be awesome if the devs could share a bit about the architecture so we could approach this idea open source style. As for crashes (that @Gangsta) mentioned - not downtime - I also think there is room for improvement as far as the kind of logging we could add to the MapleRoyals client and server side to understand what preventative measures could be taken. Keep up the awesome ideas @galyo
I don’t think mentioning the fact that there’s only been a handful of crashes/server problems in the last 3 months is being toxic. I personally don’t find it necessary as a few hours offline per few months due to problems isn’t that big of a deal
I don't think mentioning that fact is toxic either! I also agree that the few hours offline per months is a big deal. However it would definitely put MapleRoyals another step ahead of the competition, and be a cool boon for the community.
