Perhaps your anti virus picks it up, try to white list Maple's folder.
Do you happen to have your display drivers outdated? Try updating them and see if it fixes the problem.
It doesn't seem as if any OS is installed within your virtual machine. You'll have to mount the iso within your virtual machine and install it...
Try using DxWnd then.
Then test it with windows 7 compatibility and run it as admin just in case and if that doesn't work then you'll have to use vmware player for this.
Which of vmware's software do you use and which version?
You could try to set it to windows xp sp3 compatibility and see if that works. Worse case you'll have to use vmware to play it.
Press alt+enter to enter window mode once the game got to the login screen.
Check if MapleRoyals.exe isn't running in the background and close it if it does, then try to continue your installation.
VMWare workstation 6 is extremely outdated and didn't support 3d as good as newer versions do.
VMWare player pro 12 is what you want most likely.
