Closed 4th Row Equip. Inventory Corruption: Crashes Game

    Where the issue happened: 4th Row of Equip. Item Inventory, Slot Unknown
    Date/Time this occurred: November 30th, 2023 at approx. 23:00 server time and MANY times after due to troubleshooting efforts.

    Details of the Error: This issue only started occurring for me after updating to the most recent release on the 30th of November. When attempting to open the equip tab of the inventory on Chadethy, the game immediately freezes for ~15 to 30 seconds, fades to a black screen, then the client exits with no error codes presented. When opening in the cash shop, the game does not crash since in the bottom left inventory window only the first 3 rows are shown.

    I have verified this issue does not occur on ChadethyCR or CaptainChad, which supports this is a specific item that is corrupt/not added within this recent patch. Transferring a smega from my cash inventory to my item inventory switched the default tab to Cash when opening, so I was able to verify all other inventory tabs from top to bottom have no corruption issues. The last thing done on my main inventory-wise was transfer a 10 att pgc to ChadethyCR in Kerning when that account hit lvl 65 in cpq2, but I highly doubt this would have contributed to the issue at hand. Items I have tried:

    1. Reinstallation
    2. Searching the forum, issues remains unresolved. There is only one "solution" found, which I do not think is a solution, rather the user just having their cash inventory open and had not yet switched to the tab with the problem item
    3. Tried accessing on various channels, same issue.
    4. Tried unequipping, which successfully unequips the item while crashing your game and successfully makes it into the inventory. (I confirmed this by manually clicking the slider to the bottom avoiding the problem row and scrolling upwards, crash occurs when you hit the problem row, which would be the 21st row if starting from the bottom).

    Can someone on the Administration team please assist in helping me find which item is corrupt in the 4th slot of my Equipment Inventory so I can continue playing the game on my main?

    I've looked into this on our test server using a recent backup, however since it doesn't have exactly the latest data, I haven't yet been able to replicate the issue with your character there. While we wait for a newer backup, it would be useful to know a few things:

    Are you using img or wz files?
    What is the date at the top of the client window?
    Do you remember buying any cash equips in the past week or so?
    Can you try using different system settings, e.g. turning off clock, or 800x600 instead of 1024x768?
    Does the issue happen regardless of what map you are in or the number of players or mobs in the map?

    Thanks to the team for looking into this for me! For now I can at least confirm I have not bought any NX equips within the past week. I will be able to provide answers to the other questions once I am home in 8 to 10 hours.

    A bit off on my time estimation, late day...


    Are you using img or wz files?

    I am using the IMG file.​
    What is the date at the top of the client window?

    No​
    Can you try using different system settings, e.g. turning off clock, or 800x600 instead of 1024x768?
    Tried all combinations both non full and full screen, with/without clock, crashes continue.​
    Does the issue happen regardless of what map you are in or the number of players or mobs in the map?
    I checked Kerning City on a populated map, Kerning and Henessys on a non-populated map, checked the Victoria Road: The Hill East of Henesys, and Lost Time <1>, crashes continue.​


    Additional discovered information:

    1. Any item dropped from a mob will crash my game if i try to pick it up, regardless of which inventory tab the item belongs to.
    2. Mesos can be picked up without issue.
    3. Consuming a potion via hotkey crashes my game.
    4. Cash shop items can be transferred from the cash inventory to the main inventory and the other way around without issue, so long as the dreaded 4th row of the Equip tab is not scrolled to.
    5. NX Cash cards dropped from bosses add to my NX store cas expected when entering the CS. Crash only occurs during the initial pickup of the item.

    Incredibly, we can mark this as resolved.

    Skimming through FM stores, I found one that crashed me. I got a guildy to help me identify which item was causing it, and it was a Dark Nisrock. I remember having one of these in my inventory, which led me to believe this had to be something wrong with how I was re-installing the new client. Sure enough after a specific uninstallation and reinstallation process, the crash stopped.

    Steps to remedy:

    1. Restarted machine (well over a week uptime), logged in and closed out of all unnecessary startup programs.
    2. Completely uninstalled and manually removed remaining royals files that were not cleaned from the system during the uninstallation process (did not manually clean up leftover files in previous reinstallation attempts).
    3. Restarted machine.
    4. Re-download a new instance of the IMG client.
    5. Completed re-installation with the new instance of the IMG client.



    Possible reasons that come to mind the first few re-installations did not do the trick:

    1. Windows 10 real-time virus protection turns on by itself after being offline for a certain period of time, so potentially this came back online unexpectedly and deleted the img associated with the Nisrock.
    2. My machine during the first 2 reinstallations had not been rebooted in well over a week and multiple programs were open and running at the time Royals was installing. Potentially the uptime, as well as the programs running at the time could have interfered with the Royals installer in some way.
    3. The uncleaned files from the previous installations I did not manually clear caused an issue.
    4. Unknown anomaly while the IMG was installing Mapleroyals.
    5. Unknown anomaly affecting the client installer while the IMG was downloading to my machine.
    6. 3rd time's the charm.

    I am most inclined to believe reason 2 is the culprit since, to me, it has the largest variables that could have contributed to the issue. I will take full blame for this; I should have known better on the machine uptime and excess programs end.


    Now please excuse me while I attend therapy to work on my trust issues with Dark Nisrocks moving forward. ^_^' Thanks to the team for their time and if I can answer any other questions, please let me know!
