Just a little backstory, I've been playing Maplestory for a very long time. Unfortunately, I had played it, not truly taken the time to learn how it works and all that (I was a dumb kid). It wasn't til long after Big Bang that I kinda became a pro-ish player. I dabbled in this server before, but unfortunately had the same experience as I was busy with life. Now that it's summer break, though, I finally have lot's of free time to devote to this game. With that, I have a few questions
First off, I'm debating on whether to make an I/L or F/P mage. My decision basically comes down to which will be easier and less expensive to fund I have 5.5m and 115k NX from when I dabbled in the server before (I kept voting even though I wasn't playing for no real reason), so what should I spend all that on first? I know a pet is important, but so are AP resets, which I can't buy til level 50 nowadays. So should I save up my NX further til I reach level 50 then buy a ton of AP resets to sell? Or should I spend it on something else? Also what equipment should I prioritize getting as a mage? I know a bathrobe scrolled with int will be important, and so will a ragged cape, but is there anything else I should go for right away? Also since I'll be going lukless, where can I get a maple staff? Just buy a clean one or is there somewhere to find it? I wanna try to be getting my gear and scrolls myself rather than buying them, as I don't see many options in the FM for less than 5m. Also are there any quests that are highly recommended I do? Whether they give good exp or great items or something, yeah.
In conclusion, I hope I didn't go too far with the questions ;v; I just have a lot of them. Any help is very much appreciated ^w^

I'm pretty much a beginner myself but I'll try to address each question. Disregard whatever I say if a vetern appears.
Which will be easier and less expensive to fund?
Sry, I don't play mage, no clue. Tho mage funding seems pretty expensive to start off from. Better to just lvl a character and use it to fund your actual main.

Also what equipment should I prioritize getting as a mage?

1st question, ditto. Prolly Int robe, Staff/wand(wand is more expensive in LR cuz of shield?). Earrings are plentiful. Face is pretty excessive. Helm is gonna be Zhelm or some 0 stats helm which can be found easily.

but is there anything else I should go for right away?
I would personally get 1 of those scrolled lvl 10 wand and lvl 25 clean leaf earrings.

So should I save up my NX further til I reach level 50 then buy a ton of AP resets to sell?

    In terms if wealth w.r.t AP resets 115k/3.3k = 34 resets x 10.5m(valued around 10-11m) = 357m
357m isnt alot if you want to buy int gear such as scrolled int robe. I would personally prefer to gacha and sell scrolls since its definitely more profitable; just abit more tiresome to sell the scrolls.

Just buy a clean one or is there somewhere to find it?
You can grind for them but not anytime soon, prolly better to just buy a clean.

Where can I get a maple staff for <5m?
There's plenty in the FM, just the crappy ones. It isn't a bad idea to just buy 1, grind to 50 on a character to just start earning money via AP resets/Gacha

Also are there any quests that are highly recommended I do?
    I'm a scrub, I don't do much quests.

If there are any other questions, feel free to direct them to a real pro.

    Edit: 3.1k per AP reset

A fire mage is the strongest and cheapest mage to fund. Blizzard 30 costs much more than meteor 30 and both are cheaper than genesis 30. You will most likely have to make an hs mule if you plan to sell leech with you mage.

It is up to u what u spend your nx on but usually having a pet is a good idea. To make money u can either go with ap resets and sell them for 10m each or try your luck at gachapon. Mushroom shrine gachapon gives chaos scrolls (~450m), NLC gives white scrolls (~360m), kerning city gives pink gaia capes (can be worth over a billion if high ATK).

You can get maple staffs (lvl 35) from ligators, maple lama staff (43) from horny mushrooms, level 63 maple staff/wand are more difficult to get the wand being easiest from jr.lucidas, you can try to get the staff from firebombs.

As a mage your gear does not really matter until 4th job where a few int could be the difference between 1 hitting or 2 hitting a mob with mage ultimate. You can try to get an int bathrobe , some int/magic attack earrings, and some int/magic attack work gloves (yellow work gloves). But once you are level 130 you will want to spend a good amount of money on a powerful scrolled elemental wand that matched your characters element (Red for fire, blue for ice).

You can do quests if you like to but if you are just rushing to level fast I feel that grinding is the best unless you can get a party for a pq. Once you are level 75 you can make the decision of if you will continue to grind or do you want to spend some money to purchase a leech at wolf spiders. From 75 to 120 you should alternate between grinding hard and sometimes buying a split leech for an hour if you are willing to spend money on it. If you want to keep your money then you should grind all the way to 120.

If you plan to leech here are the level you need to be for each leeching location.

    75 - wolf spiders
80 - you can try goby although some people stick with wolf spiders
    85 - ulu 1
    90 - ulu 2
    105 - petrifighter
    108 - skeles

Note: petrifighter and skele leech are very similar I personally like petri leech more. But both are very expensive as they are the best leeches in game.

This information is from the top of my head so if anyone sees something wrong feel free to correct it.
