I remember the day when capital punishment was abolished once and for all in the United Kingdom. It was a cool spring day in the month of May, and I was eating dinner with a couple of school friends in London. Sipping a cup of tea, I listened to the harmonious melody of coaches bustling past me. Suddenly, a good friend of mine interrupted and pointed at something that had been printed in The Daily Telegraph. The main headline read, "HOUSE OF COMMONS VOTES TO END CAPITAL PUNISHMENT". Upon gleaning those words, my heart felt relieved. That was a turning point for England, for humanity. Capital punishment is simply wrong and inhumane. Killing a person makes us just as bad as the perpetrator, and people should be allowed to redeem themselves.

I would like to extend that line of thinking to the casual use of IP bans by the GMs here. An IP ban is similar to the death penalty: it is final, absolute, and eternally punishing. And where there is eternal punishment, there is room for eternal injustice.

Out of the thousands of bans dished out since the birth of this server, how many Maplers do you think were wrongly IP banned? Even if it is just once person it is an injustice. A permanent injustice. Moreover, shouldn't people have the chance to redeem themselves? Or is forgiveness not believed in by the administrators of this site?

Simply put, IP banning is morally wrong. The worst a ban should do is permaban an account, not an entire IP address of people. I know the leader of this site, Matt, is from Scotland. I am appealing to him in the name of moral fortitude, to make things right.

End IP banning. Is it inhumane.

Before I forget, welcome to MapleRoyals.

    Back to the topic:
Except for the fact that IP bans can be removed if necessary, people have the option to play elsewhere, and that you accepted the terms and conditions when you signed up for an account. There's even a ban appeal subforum if you hadn't realized that by now. I can't imagine why you think anyone would be okay with letting hackers, botters, scammers, account-sharers, players who trade with real life currency constantly harass others have another chance to ruin the server after being given multiple chances to stop their behavior.

You seem to be new around here so I'd be surprised if you were serious, but I'll just let the results of the poll tell you where the community stands in regards to this idea. You might want to do a bit of research on how the server operates before you conclude that they're unfair to those who have been banned.

Here's the Terms & Conditions, if you haven't read them yet:

Agreed, we should giving chance to those peoples who had sincerely admit thier mistakes.
Its normal to make mistakes in the life, somethings you might not learn if do not make mistake. Also some maybe a little kid, they probably can not form a correct judgment or repel to a temptation.

But a permanently is still necessary there, i think just not to be the 1st punishment, and some behavior shouldnt be forgiven by multi time.

I don't consider 13 year olds little kids. They want to be important and called teenagers and so they are not called children. I say this because the minimum age on this server to hold an account is 13. The universal (last I checked) age where it has been deemed people know right from wrong is 7. So to say that these "kids" cannot form a correct judgment or give in to temptation, isn't a good argument as anyone registered on this server is already more than old enough to know right from wrong and is why when we ban them, an excuse like that is never accepted.

Morally wrong? It's easy to make a good speech. Most people know how to do that. I wonder though how something even simpler than that, such as seeing the consequences of removing permanent bans, was not considered before this. I can only imagine all those hackers coming back.

I totally agree with this point, however I will state this; lenience for wrongdoing teaches that you can get away with bad things. I don't like that, personally.

It was mentioned that even if you get banned here, there are other servers to play. That's the truth, there are. Maybe they aren't as appealing, but they're there. If you make the mistake of hacking or breaking the same rule multiple times (read; you've been forgiven for your wrongdoing at least once before your permanent ban) then you deserve to be shown that abuse is not acceptable, and you deserve the harsh lesson of never being able to play here again.

This whole lesson is undermined by this being a video game and therefore has little to no impact on your real life, therefore people don't take punishment here seriously at all, but in a way that gives the lesson strength, too; we can be as harsh as we deem appropriate knowing that, at the end of the day, this is a game. If we remove one douchebag player from our game, our community is a better place. If we remove one douchebag person from real life, well... that's quite the accomplishment for a private MapleStory server, isn't it.
