What are you on about, mate? Ice Arch Mage are really powerful, and will rather quickly be able to 1 shot high level mobs. Get yourself a blue elemental wand to boost your damage significantly! They can't really boss, but no mages can, or could in v0.62.

I/L and F/P are the best farming class in the game, and scale extremely well even without gear. It takes very little to 2 shot petris, and even not much effort to achieve 1 shot at places like ulu2 and squids.
What part of ice mages are you finding weak? They're tanky, have some of the best AoE 2nd job and beyond, and does solid damage even without gear.
The only thing they can't do well is boss, since their single target DPS is lacking.

I started fresh with a IL mage. No funds.
I always out damaged every class at mobbing, specially in 4th job. Just be patient, max thunderbolt first and start leveling like there is no tomorrow. In my opinion, ice mages have the fastest second job, a decent third job and an amazing fourth job.

How do you define weak? AMs aren't a bossing class, but they excel at leveling and making meso by selling leech. I maintain that AMs are a solo playstyle class. You don't have the socialization of bossing, but AMs embody the heart of Maple in how oriented they are around grinding. They're easy to fund since their skillbooks for Blizzard and Meteor are cheap, their int gear is versatile since it can be used to HP wash an attacking class. Their endgame grinding spot will likely be petris, and with an HS mule, they'll be able to sell leech at the same prices as bishop (1 hit petri leech and 1 hit skele leech are both 65m-60m per hour) but their map availability is much better. I see people buying and selling skele maps, but I rarely ever see the same with petri maps. AMs are able to hit 200 as fast or as slow as they like and they always have a steady income by selling leech to whatever buyer smegas B>petri or skele leech, no map. As a last point, AMs have the highest mobbing damage in the game. They 1 hit petris at 1285 magic and as a bishop, 1 hitting petris takes me 1591 magic. Bishops take 1295 magic to 1 hit skeles, but even then, 1 hit petris is more exp per hour than 1 hit skeles. So although AMs aren't a bossing class, they really are the best grinding class. Whether you continue with your AM depends on whether you like the playstyle.

To gear up an AM, look at my post here: https://royals.ms/forum/threads/so-would-you-help-me-ohko-petris.68759/#post-357322. I mentioned some workarounds for getting your AM taken on boss runs, and I admit much of an AM's viability relies on making an HS mule, but HS mules don't take too long to make since they're done at level 81.

Let me know if you have any questions! Happy Mapling! :D

Actually, end game ILs usually go to Oblivion and some F/P go to RoR. You have more options of grinding than petris so don't feel like you will be stuck there forever!

I/L by far the easiest to make money on, just get to 120 and do your blizzard quest, farm wolf spiders from levels 120-125 (free leech a priest for HS) then when blizzard is 20+ go to ulu 2 and you can start selling 2hit leech, for money, i found that 1hit ulu>2hit petri when i was doing it exp wise so i wouldnt petri unless you can 1 hit them, but its pretty easy to fund yourself into 1hitting petris. the main thing is just level, every 1level=5int/(more tma with MW) so just focus on leveling at first dont worry so much about your gear until u get 150 IMO.

in terms of raw mesos: ulu2>petri, you should be filling your whole inventory in about 40mins at ulu2, petri it takes more than 1hr 30mins to fill your bags normally because the drops arent to good. so if your just making money, ulu2>petri
