Hi, I wanted to propose a QoL for the Free Market: Give us a "Refresh Shop" button or a "/refresh" command on our shops so that we can reset the timer for our shops. The benefits for this is that it reduces the hassle of constantly closing and reopening shop when you don't have the need to change your store title or shifting out a lot of items. And it will address the issue of some deviant players "FM botting" or "sniping" people's spots when they're trying to reset their shop due to the timer running out. Players would no longer have to fear resetting their shop and possibly losing it due to sniping. Also, Greenmind mentioned that it could help in scenarios where your shop is tightly squeezed in-between two other shops. [+] "Wouldn't people no longer lose shops if there's a refresh button/command?" Players will still be required to refresh/reset their shop within 24 hours of the last time they did it. If the timer reaches 24hours, then the shop spot will be lost just like before. [+] "You're just lazy. Just reset your shop like everyone else!" It's not about being lazy. Players will still be taking the time to login to refresh/reset their shop as usual. The only thing is that there would be less hassle of resetting due to the "FM botting" or "sniping" people. [+] "Is this something the Devs need to worry about when there are other items that are more pressing?" This is a suggestion/idea to combat the FM sniping and botting, as well as Quality of Life. If it is something that can be done without it being severely taxing on the dev, then I and others would really appreciate it. [+] "I'm fine with this idea but players should be taxed in some way for this feature to make it balanced" I don't think this is a feature that needs to be taxed/restricted. This seems like it should be a staple feature for shops.
I was thinking the same thing; reset the timer to 24 hours again without closing and reopening the merchant shop. Each time we close the shop, we are at risk of losing our slot. Store permits need the same feature that the merchant shop has; the ability to organize and manage the store without closing and reopening the store. Give the merchant shop and store permit the ability to rename the store without having to close and reopen the store.
As someone who's been FM botted before, I agree that this little change will help combat the cheaters who camp in 1-1, of which there are few but they were a menace. There's still a small margin of error where a player has to be careful (expired permits mainly), but TBH those who will sweat to get a spot in 1-1/2/3/4 during server checks and patches will most likely be diligent enough to reset their stores daily and to ensure consistent overlap of their store permits. And it's not as though this makes store permits permanent, just that it reduces the risk of FM merchants having their spots swiped when their 24-hour daily timer is up.
i think this is horrible lol the same person will have the same spot forever, one reset per 24 hours is too easy especially when maple can be played on a toaster at work. please dont take away maple pvp i enjoy it. also just saw that its possible to play maple on a steamdeck lol
We might as well be given reserved spots based on seniority. I started playing in May 2013 so I think I deserve a ch1 fm1 door spot. I'm in favour of this change and definitely 100% serious. On a more serious note, if you'd still be forced to log in to actually refresh it I wouldn't be opposed to the idea. Though I have no clue how feasible this would be to implement.
I was mainly speaking on Merchant shops but unsure if they can expand on store permits. Being able to change the shop title on a dime would be very useful. This is very true. Will add to OP, thank you. Yes, you'd still have to login and get to the shop to refresh. @yeepog does seem like a magic worker... Well....
Just got squeezed out of a spot by that misleading as hell xmas merchant, please consider this suggestion. The shop resets should be a check for being online rather than getting lucky with pixel-perfect positioning.
Boosting this because for the last two SCs, I keep getting the misfortune of having my store aggressively hugged from both sides. This should just be a check for me being online: I shouldn't have to use an owl each time just to reset.
We have recently discussed this within staff and decided against it for the following reasons: We understand the frustration to lose a spot to FM botters but we also want to keep the normal competition of FM spots and rather try to improve on what we can do against FM botter While it seems possible to implement we rather spend the development time elsewhere We don’t want to add many more commands
