Hey all, I just wanted to reach out and see if anyone else in this community was a hobbyist for fixing home electronics. I have been working at repairing TVs, laptops, tablets, cell phones, audio/video receivers, DVD/Blu-Ray players, gaming consoles, and more for the last couple of years and would like to meet some people who share my love and enthusiasm for making broke stuff gooder. Also, if anyone is ever looking for advice on how to fix something, or what to look out for, feel free to contact me!
I repair stuff that breaks by myself, as it is usually more affordable than sending it back/buying a replacement. The hardest thing I repaired was an old CRT TV with bad solder joints, there are some things in a TV that old that you absolutely don't wanna touch ^^
Too bad this thread didn't take off! I repair stuff often, though I'm a bit disappointed by my 'resume'. It always turns out to be a broken button, burnt out fuse, bad solder joint, broken plastic tab etc, etc. I feel like i never encounter the problems that i can really learn from and get better, though once in a while a device shows up with more advanced trouble, yet i'll be completely unable to diagnose it. For example Dual Shock controllers for the PS2, they very often have non responsive buttons, but the rubber domes and flexible circuit boards seem intact, and I often have to guess that it's just the IC gone bad and throw them in the spare parts bin(who doesn't need joystick donors though?)
