Hey, I'm just wondering but, why don't you guys simply ban offenders by their HWID (Defined from motherboard ID and other unchangeable variables) so the offender's computer isn't allowed to access the game anymore? I feel the IP ban is quite harsh since if people play in dormitories, school, library or any other public places with internet, there's a chance of them getting banned along with the offender. It gets to me quite a bit seeing players wanting to play, but not being able to as a result of an offender sharing the same network as them. Thanks for taking the time to read, and I hope to get a reasonable answer to this. I don't see why the HWID method isn't being used at all.
So question: if I ban you by HWID, what's to stop you from going to another computer in your house and making an account again and evading your ban? Nothing. HWID bans would need to be used in combination with something else identifying, like an IP address. So even with that suggestion, we would need to ban by HWID + IP.
Woops, totally forgot to consider that. So I guess, if someone innocent gets banned as a result of an offender in the same network, would it be possible for the innocent player to get unbanned, if the offender's a hacker?
It depends on the circumstances. At times, we have made the determination and made arrangements with the affected individuals to allow them to play while allowing the true offender to remain banned. However, more often than not, this type of arrangement is not possible.
As far as I know the v0.62 cannot pass on the HWID anyway, however a v0.83 client can according to Kevin.
