Character Name: RWTer Last thing you did: Job advancement in Nautilus to a pirate Why do you think you got banned?: About 30 minutes before the ban occurred I created a new character on my account which was just going to be for holding extra items (aka a storage mule). I chose the IGN "RWTer" which admittedly is probably in the grey area of acceptable names, however I've used IGNs such as "Hacker" and "Cheater" on other Maplestory servers in the past without issue so didn't think much of it. Looking over the rules now I still don't see exactly which rule it is breaking. I play this game extremely casually and have no interest in actual real world trading, if you look at my other characters or chat logs I have never mentioned it before. Just because you have used those character names elsewhere does not mean they are allowed here. We have our own set of rules and anything and everything to do with real world or real money trading is strictly forbidden, including any believable claim to have done so. The IGN 'RWTer' would constitute a believable claim of having committed such an act.
Fair enough, I'd argue the "believable" part of the claim based on a name alone is pretty subjective but obviously it's not my decision to make. Out of curiousity, would the IGNs "Hacker" and "Cheater" result in permanent bans too? I tried both of those first and it said they were taken so I just assumed there were characters using those names, it hadn't occurred to me that they may be taken by banned accounts.
We updated our rules regarding naming to be more clear about what's allowed and what isn't by adding: The name may not be used to promote, advertise, condone, or describe any activities connected to real world trading. We'd like to offer you a name change of your choice and an unban after that change has been made so please choose another available name for that specific character of yours.
Thank you for the chance to fix this mistake, I hope it's clear that the character wasn't made with malicious intent and if I knew it was going to cause issues I wouldn't have made it in the first place. Since I have no way to check what names are taken I'm happy to let you pick a new name, but if you'd like to humour me the name "Censored" works if it's available.
Censored the name so it doesn't get taken by others in the mean time. We should be able to get it changed with the next server check and get you unbanned.
