I have played Maplestory before when big bang update was released, however I was curious about the old maplestory, before 2010. Since Extalia has shutdown, I was in a search of going somewhere else to play. And thus I've found mapleroyals.

For now I just don't know what class I should make. I've read a lot that I'm gonna struggle a LOT if I don't make a bishop for some reason, although I don't know shit about how funding with a bishop works, nor why I should make it my main first before making another character.

Do I really have to go bishop to get playing? As a complete new player on Classic Maplestory, I need help and guidance here concerning how things work here as well for classes, about what is good and what isn't viable. ~f12

    Thanks in advanced! ~f17

If you want a top tier character that can easily go on bossruns later it would be adviseable to make a bishop first. If not, you don't have to.

Making a bishop is definitely not required to "be good". The first character I made was a corsair, I got to maybe 100-ish before I made my second character, which was a bishop (just purely for fun!!) It eventually reached a higher level than my corsair because once I reached 4th job, genesis was a very handy skill that also helped me earn some easy pocket money after a couple hours of grinding.

My corsair turned out pretty well in my personal standards, even without the intense billion-meso funding that some pros might have when they start a new character. Making a bishop can help out your other characters a little bit, but its not exactly LIFE CHANGING (unless you just try super hard to reach some goal). Like you said, you're new to the server! Just test the waters and have some fun before you dive in to focus on the specifics of the game. :)

Objectively? The "best" route to take is make a bishop first to be able to leech your DPS characters during lower levels, have access to your own 24/7 HS mule, to sell leech, heart stoppers, and making money farming/in general. It's clearly the easiest class to grind with and an invaluable asset after you get to about level 150.

Subjectively? The reason we play video games is to have fun, at least most people. You can make it just fine starting out as ANY of the classes, you can have one solo F/P mage and still be as successful as everyone else. But you may have to wait a bit longer to accumulate wealth, you might have to get more creative in your methods of making meso, and you may have a more difficult road to 200 or making billions but to be honest, the difference isn't as significant as people make it out to be. You don't NEED a bish. But you might find out you WANT one after playing here for awhile.
