Hello there, As you may have already seen in the latest announcement, we have added a new command to the player's repository: ~buyback. Accessing this command calls Barry, he has acces to all items bought by the NPCs. And maybe he can help you get your item back if you wrongly sold it. Barry can only help you for a short period of time. If he has shipped the items to an other location, he can not get them back for you. He wants a 10% fee, or at least 100,000 mesos (10,000 mesos for beginners) for getting your items back. Barry should only be contacted if you're in the same place where you sold the item, provided you haven't changed channel or signed off in the meantime.
In keeping with other in-game services (read: the cab), I'm wondering if perhaps it would be appropriate for Barry's fee to be reduced for beginners. I think it would be a nice self-reference. Like with the taxicab it is not so much a question of affordability—most beginners are probably fluid enough—but one of fun little quirks. The beginner consciously opts for a life that is, in many aspects much harder than the ordinary adventurer; in return he or she gets a few minor conveniences.
Can commands recognize a person's job and act accordingly, though? I'm not sure... LF> Gi/Matt/John to confirm/dispose my assumption.
The command simply accesses an NPC and NPCs can certainly tell the job of a player; the taxicabs, job instructors and possibly others do it already (for which they use cm.getJob(), by the by). Having said that, since commands are nothing more than text sent through the chat that then compel the server to act according to the body of the message, they ought to have access to all the information the server has access to.
Updated. It will cost you 10,000 mesos (or the 10% fee) if the item was sold when you were a beginner.
