Sup Royals, I've been playing this server for a while. Sadly, over time I am finding myself having increasing difficulty distinguising between similar colors. In the past this used to be in the blue-green color range. Wich has causes barely any problems playing this game. Allthough, at this moment I am realising that I also have a lot of difficulty distinguising the different kind of pink-purple colors that show up in chat. it is near impossible to distinguish between: Party Chat Guild Chat Purple/Pink Colored Smega's Wedding Announcements On top of that I am barely able to even read these colors over a light background, such as the floor of FM Room 1-6. Being able to adjust contrast, tranceparancy of the chatbox. Or preferably change the colors of these chats would help me out immensly. I understand that this would come with challenges that Royals might not be able to fix. Also that there is a responsibility on my part. Nonethelss, I hope you could consider potential changes or at least have a healthy discussion on what could or should be done. #malecolorblindnessawareness
I'm not sure if this is possible to implement on our client's architecture, and it's also difficult to design in-game filters for many games considering the various types of colorblindness and degrees to cater to. There's tons of color variance within Maplestory, so one would have to design filters for Deutan, Protan, Achromatopsia, and so on. And one filter for one who's deutan colorblind might not work for another person. I recall our devs looking into customizing the chat more, so maybe it will be possible in the future for the chat at the very least. But I'm very curious though, have you tried any of the built-in windows/mac or third-party color filters at all? If so, how have they been working out for you?
Thanks for the reply and reconsideration of options. About taking responsibility myself, I havent found anything that worked for me yet. Allthough its just a few days prior to this post that I am not 100% in denial anymore and has been the first time in my life I actually feel impaired. Beside the: "I hightlighted this green" "Ehh? That is blue...." "hmmmm." "Anyway, I highlighted this brown" "Ehh? That is green...." "ah..." I havent explored much yet. If you have any recomondations for 3rd-party filters, please let me know . Possibly due to lighter sprites for the floors during the Christmas Event, I am noticing having a very hard time reading some parts of the chatbox and wishing to initiate a conversation about it. The most easy improvement, at least for me, would be a 0% transperancy option for the chatbox. The different chats I mentioned are very similar in color, with 0% chatbox transperancy, just a very slight recoloring of these chats would yield great improvements for me. I definitly understand that there are many different forms of color impairments. Each would require (specialized) work. Royals would like to do a good job and not a half-assed one that requires a lot of effort, just for this one guy with a fairly uncommon form of impairment. Furthermore, I have very little understanding of this. I just know I am fucked if someone asks me to grab something from the blue box downstairs.
I have added this to our to-do-list. Therefore I’ve moved it to „Accepted“ and labeled it as „For implementation“. However do note that it may not be feasible for our developers to implement it and if it is it may take longer than most people would expect. Our developers have many other projects and their time is limited. Thanks for your feedback!
Could I add the skill poison mist to this list? Im colour blind and cannot see through the mist when a player uses it. Would be nice to have an option to turn off the visual for the skill
Hi, sorry to resurface this but I have similar issues as the OP. I have minor colour blindness especially for purple. My vision blends purple guild chat into the translucent background especially on rock backgrounds such as FM or perion. I have lesser issues reading red or white. if there is an QoL for players to turn chat windows opaque, it will be great for vision impaired players. I have guild mate with similar opinion and hope this can be something devs work towards during their extra time.
