I posted the guide to clean booting largely as a quick reference for myself. On my old laptop, my pet auto HP/MP would stop working about once every six weeks, and invariably right as I was going to boss. Since then, I've found that clean booting on a monthly basis seems to prevent surprises. I'd like to suggest that anyone else who has a recurring issue with pet auto HP/MP do the same preventative maintenance, rather than waiting until it's a problem. Much less aggravating this way.
Bumping for visibility. Important: Don't forget to select the "Hide All Microsoft Services" checkbox, or you might need to restore your PC to a previous backup!
