    Hey guys,
I'm a lvl160 corsair and I've never fought Horntail before so I was looking for any tips and advice I should remember during the battle.
I'm assuming I follow where the other Ranged classes stay?
In particular I'd really appreciate advice on when to dismount, and what attacks to look out for and how :)
If anyone wouldn't mind taking me along for a run and give a bit of guidance, I'd be keen for that and very grateful <3

i think most sairs just teach themselves dismounting at ht. Pre heads are easy (They only have 1/2 attack animations, i think the horn on his head turns blue everytime he attacks). i haven't hted since the update in December but at the main body just watch the heads and you'll learn in a few runs. As for what you actually attack at main body just ask whoever ur running with.

Hey there ! 16x sair here with quite some HT experience. Some tips to give hmmm. Well the main tip I'd give is LEARN HT'S ATTACK ANIMATIONS. This is crucial to keeping your ship alive. The preheads are easy as Robby mentioned. The preheads have one attack where HT's eyes and horns turn blue. Dismount as soon as u see this. This attack will do somewhere around 5k damage I believe and will push you against the wall. The other attack is where HT casts a circular spell in front of his head and it summons either a 1/1 lightning attack which has a small delay before hitting you, or a quick lightning attack which almost instantly hits you. As soon as you see the summoning circle, I'd recommend just dismount. Most of HT is learn-as-you-go for sairs and you probably won't be able to apply the advice we give here instantly. After the preheads you are faced with the main threat which is all of HT. I honestly haven't mastered dismounting while tail and legs are alive. I'm finding it nearly impossible to do so, so I just use rapid fire til we move to wings usually. After that you just need to watch for the summoning skills of the 3 HT heads.

    Head A: (far left)
This head has an annoying ice attack that hits almost instantly after being casted. As soon as you see his head bob down with a blue summoning circle, I'd just dismount.

    Head B: (middle head)
This head has 2 main attacks which are very easy to avoid. One is where his head moves slightly down and you will see a red summoning circle near his chest. When you see this, you can proceed to attack for an additional second or so. This summon takes about 1.5-2 seconds or so, and it will summon fire which hits everyone on the platform. His next attack is where he moves his head up. This is essentially the same attack, also has lots of delay, and is easy to avoid. He will breathe fire after about 1.5 seconds or so, attacking everyone. Whenever you see either of these just continue attacking as I said for about an additonal 1 second, then dismount.

    Head C: (far right)
This head has two main attacks as well. One of his attacks is where he bobs his head down with a blue summoning circle. This will either do 1 of 2 things: cast 1/1 lightning with some delay or nearly instant lightning which deals like 5k damage (pretty much the same attacks as the preheads). Just dismount when you see him summoning with a blue circle.

And that is pretty much it for attacking parts. The wings don't attack (I think), and the hands only deal 1 hp damage. I didn't include legs or tail because I personally can't seem to keep my ship alive with them yet. Still a noob hehe. I think I already have you added in game. Are you Pandough in game? I'm Corsairs :) . I can bring you with my runs if you'd like. It'd be nice to have another sair along. But yeah overall, HTing just comes with practice and learning attacks

Great response, Robby and MSrocks pretty much covered most things. As brought up by both of them, HT tips can be given but it is unlikely that you'll be able to apply these techniques as soon as you read about them; the best thing is to go on a few HT runs and learn by yourself.

I'd like to add a bit of information that doesn't overlap with what MSrocks and Robby said; when you first start the main body, you will most likely be attacking the legs and then the tail from the left side of Horntail. This is the hardest part of Horntail for corsairs as all body parts are active and will be attacking simultaneously. Once you start getting used to HT and want a challenge, you can try to dismount for legs/tail as well. Previously I thought it would be hard to white even a BM at legs/tail, but perhaps someone could eventually pull this all off:

At the start of Horntail's main body, on top of watching out for Head A, B, and C attacks (ice, fire, and lightning), you will have to pay attention to the leg and tail animations. The legs will stomp and cause you to be stunned when you receive the attack - to avoid this, I recommend simply jumping so that you can avoid the stomp attack. The legs will be constantly stomping - however, the only time the stomp attack will affect you is when the legs glow white before crashing down to the ground. Whether you choose to dismount or not just before jumping depends on whether head A, B, or C is attacking at the same time as the leg stomp (e.g. If you see the legs glowing white and you also see Head C about to cast a lightning attack, you may want to dismount quickly and then jump so that you don't receive 5~7k damage while you're up in the air. Receiving damage on your ship while you are jumping defeats the whole purpose of jumping - besides avoiding stun). You will also need to keep and eye on Horntail's tail - you can see the very tip of the tail when you HT from the left side of the body. When you see the tip of the tail glow white, this should be a signal for you to get ready to jump (again, depending on the other body part attacks you may or may not need to dismount ship before jumping) to avoid the tail. The tail attack doesn't stun, but rather pushes you back from the middle of the screen all the way to the left wall, which greatly reduces the time you can spend attacking the tail (and therefore reduces your chances of whiting! >:D ), so it would be wise to invest your attention into watching the tail attack so that you can avoid it.

I hope this made sense to you; the tips I gave really should only apply once you become more accustomed to avoiding attacks from Head A, B, and C. For the meantime, you'll have to bear with your ship breaking twice, or even thrice during legs/tail.

Also, Kivin's Corsair Bossing Guide may be making a debut soon so remember to watch out for that ;)

Thanks Robby, Gurps and Kevin. I took on your advice and just finished my first Horntail this weekend. The preheads were indeed easy to watch for, even though we just froze them. Tail and legs certainly were a hard and my ship broke during those so I rapid fired as suggested :) It'd be fun if you brought me with you Gurps! Let me know if you've got a spot for me.
And I did try the jumping to avoid the leg stomps but it was still hard to pay attention to everything going on at once xD
Thanks again for your detailed responses.
