Unfortunately I highly doubt that's refundable, if you had attended the cake event more than once before -which I assume you have- you should have known you recieve an etc item, and made sure you had a free slot. :/
Like what MayCookies say, it's a player's due diligence to check and make sure there's an empty slot in your ETC.
