This issue doesn't currently affect me (at least not at the moment anyway) but I thought it would be a good idea to bring it up. When you are using the same computer (MAC address) and/or ip that you voted from earlier, but are voting for a different account, does it give an error if that IP/MAC was voted from in the last 24 hours, or does it put the vote through? My guess was that it WOULD do the check and give the error if applicable. But some people like to spread their votes between multiple accounts, and it was brought up in the chatbox that the vote system does not do this check, making it easy to get banned for vote abuse if you are sharing NX between multiple accounts (which still surprises me. I assume it is at least doing IP checks?) Some clarification for everybody would be helpful. Does it do this? If not, would it be a good feature to add? (If it is currently doing IP checks but not MAC checks, could MAC checks be added?) Thinking this thread could be useful to link to in future as this isn't the first time I've heard somebody say this. My view is that "complex" arrangements such as sharing NX between multiple accounts AND voting on various MAC addresses each time should be at your own risk as there is no way the system could protect you against accidental vote abuse in those cases. It would be the responsibility of the player to use a timer for 24 hours and remember carefully, or to switch to a 1-many or 1-1 relationship arrangement rather than many-many relationship arrangement.
It does for me. I find it checks if the ip AND account have voted in the last 24 hours, which is nice. The only potential issue i have if I'm swapping between accounts I'm voting for and places I vote at (ie. uni and home), thus I have to ensure it's been more than 24 hours.
It checks IP and account. Browsers cannot check MAC addresses. So if you were to use the same computer with a different IP and different account within a 24 hour period you it would go through but you would be breaking the rules and will likely end up banned.
So in theory if I want to spread nx over two accounts and only ever use the same computer and IP, I wouldn't be at risk of being banned for vote abuse, because the system would prevent me from voting more than once? I'm sorry if I find that hard to believe.
That is correct, as long as your IP has not changed. Some ISP's change your public IP after time, or after turning your router off and on again, and in some countries they constantly change your public IP.
It would be really useful if there was some way of linking your accounts on the website so that whichever one you logged into, it would tell you as soon as you logged in what time you last voted for each of the two private server listings (and which account you voted on). That way, if your IP address had changed because you needed to unplug your router when your internet crapped out, or because you stay with your mum during the week and your dad at weekends, you'd still have something there to remind you what time you last voted.
