Fame is a cool and unique dynamic that doesn't get enough attention. It is often used as a nice gesture or a "fuck you" of sorts, but that is about it. I think we should take advantage of such a system and make fame not only monetizable, but useful to have.

    Why should fame be monetizable?

My first argument is Nostalgia. Selling fame is a nostalgic experience I hope most of us had. Gone are the days where you stood around henesys spamming S>FAME 5K...

My second argument, is creating a new market. If we make fame actually useful rather than a completionist only aspect, we will revive the need for fame and revive a fun market dynamic. Create a need, create a market.

My third argument is that defaming becomes a more serious deterrent, so people are less likely to be assholes if it cost them money. The reverse is also true, you're more likely to be nice.

But people can just create hundreds of characters and bulk sell fame!
I hear you. But I personally think mass faming businesses SHOULD be rewarded, as it is a tedious and hard job with a long setup (hundreds of characters lvl 15+) and we should absolutely encourage such monetization aspects.

This is new and wasn't part of GMS!
Think about what Royals did with quests- simply by assigning a medal as a reward for completing quests, people are incentivized to complete quests just to win it for bragging rights/slight damage boost. Wonderful idea, execution and the community loves it. Sure, quests were not rewarded in old GMS, but it is widely acceptable as a positive change.

How do we make fame useful?
    Here are a few examples:

    Fame Medals (Damage boost)
    • 100 Fame: Influencer (+1 every stat)
    • 1000 Fame: Celebrity (+2 every stat)
    • 10,000 Fame: Mr World Wide (+3 every stat, + 300 HP/MP)

Fame PQ/JQ (Aesthetic vanity / Monetary gain)
    • 1000 Fame+ Entry requirement
    • 5 minute game time PQ/JQ which you can do once a day
    • Some rewards are unique (untradeable, cosmetic) and some are *monetizable* (scrolls)
    Fame Hired Merchant (QOL improvement)
    • 1000 Fame+ Equipping requirement
    • Lasts for 48 hours instead of 24!
    • Has more item slots
    • Costs the same as a normal Hired Merchant shop.

Could be cool if something could be done with it, but what about the people who collect negative fame? They'd be kind of screwed over by the (positive fame = rewards) system. Linking fame to some kind of achievement / medal with alright stats would be interesting, but linking it to some kind of exclusive JQ/PQ and/or an OP hired merchants would be a bit too much, imo.

Fame already is monetizable. I see people buying in the fm every day. People do make mass fame services to sell. If you ran around here selling for 5k you'd definitely get someone buying, as I usually sell for 1m. The only reason the selling fame days are gone for you is because you're chosing not to do it.

Entry requirements could be distance from 0 fame instead of positive or negative amounts of fame, making -1k fame equal to 1k fame

I think exclusivity is fine as long as it's grindable (fame is), not P2W and doesn't reward a game changing reward. Boss runs, PQs, many aspects of the game are exclusive (Zak is 50+, APQ is married only) yet grindable, I don't see how this is different?

It isn't monetizable enough. Ask any mass famer, it is hard to find customers. RN fame is nothing more than bragging rights and an entry level to basic, uselsss items. I'm not saying we should make gathering fame a basic requirement for anything, just minor benefits to revive the very dead market.

Some people are already not very nice in the FM, wouldnt recommend a 48hour merchant shop...
