Several users today in the Shoutbox were surprised to find out that this year Pepe Chairs were not being awarded to the guilds in question.

Although Maple Claws clearly says that the top 25 guilds will receive Pepe Chairs. There has also been no prior communication until AFTER the event was over that chairs would not be awarded this year.
This feedback thread is for players to share feedback and have devs reconsider this decision.

Although i agree with tim that the system could use refinement (not buying snow or leaving guilds to join top 25 guilds) i think it they should still be given out this year and maybe just reworked for next year? Lots of people worked hard to farm up snow and rally their guild together to reach those top 25 spots :'(

Why did we donate snow if not to compete for the chair and top 25?

As a fine chair collector I would very much like this chair. for how much it has been promoted by everyone in the server, to be told at the last second na no chairs really is painful. It's like hitting your ulnar nerve. It's not funny....

I spent a lot of time and effort working toward getting the chairs this year. Based on what GM Tim said it seems MapleClaws dialogue was left in as an oversight. I'm VERY surprised this oversight wasn't caught or mentioned throughout the entire event because SO MANY people were talking about the chairs the entire event. MapleClaws doesn't just tell you about the chairs, he also tells you how much snow you personally donated and he tells you the guild rankings! So people were checking this NPC all the time! Our guild even awarded Onyx Apples to the top 3 snow donators because we were so focused on getting those chairs! It would be a massive disappointment to not get the chairs this year.

Edit: :classy: Chairs are back on! Royallers Rejoice! :classy:

Sorry for the confusion. We did discuss and plan to remove this part of the event, however it still snuck it's way in. The guild ranking should be accurate anyway, so we will honor the rewards and distribute the chairs during the next planned maintenance.

As a member of Totoro, who finished 26th in snow donations, denied multiple snow sellers, grinded mobs, bosses, jump quests on multiple characters - I fully support the decision to deny the chair this year!

Are we really a community that values shortcuts and undermining of the spirit of an event? Many guilds inspired their guild members to participate with farming snow by creating competitions or awarding guildmates with incentives to push into the top 25 as a fun way make people more active.

Guilds that were able to purchase bulks of snow without actually playing the game or actively rallying their communities shouldn't be rewarded. Plain and simple.

While this does suck for guilds who legitimately made it into top 25 there is unfortunately no way to validate whether they did it without purchasing snow. (Would likely be a ton of work for Staff on their already crowded plates).

Suggestions (Unsure how hard these would be to implement):
-Snow melts/disappears upon joining a guild
-If snow is in your inventory you can not accept a guild invite

*EDIT* Guess it didn't age well. GG :donke:

Thank you Matt, it is appreciated!

Edit: I would ask you to consider the top 26 guilds. Totoro was really really close, but inched out at the last minute.

Hi, just to give my two cents. As you have concluded, it clearly makes sense to honor what was already promised. However, I do think that the Christmas Event could use refinement overall, and also specifically in the guild rankings. I'll start with guild rankings as it relates directly to this thread, but also give a little feedback into the event overall as well:
    • Assign guild points to each Christmas "event," but more directly than it has already been implemented. Already, you can gain snow or maplemas lights for the jump quest. Assign points for all sorts of things directly to the current guild rather than by rewarding with snow. This also reduces impact of guild-jumping as the points are already added.
    • Tone down the snow in general. I personally farm stoppers and the snow is quite high. Mage farmers/leechers also get tons. Snowman could potentially be reworked to spawn at certain intervals like other similar bosses.

Also, and maybe this should be its own thread, but as feedback to the event overall as someone who hadn't done Christmas event in at least a few years:
    • What an OVERWHELMING event. Pinged every few hour for winter dash. Pinged every few hours, at random intervals for snowman, disrupting runs. I personally had someone recruit me to dojo and then run off immediately to do snowman, expecting us to wait. And then he did another. And then he did a third one! ALL WHILE WE WAITED. Oh also you should do mom/dad quest every 8 hours on every character, at least until you get nose and gelts. And then you should farm both snow and maplemas lights, killing your already-full etc inventory. Also you need to do these quests, else you miss out on a nice 1.2x coupon. Also you didn't log in for enough days and get the present, so everyone else has 1.5x exp but you don't. And you have to time it right, because these two coupons don't stack. Oh, and by the way, in the middle is an extremely overlooked Hanukah event. Oh, btw you need to head over to Ariant in these 5 days for new years chair. All the while you are trying to just play the game, but you are worse off if you don't participate in all this bloat.
    • Hopefully this doesn't sound like a complaint. I actually really like each part of the event in isolation--it just became so much to keep track of that I left a lot of it undone. There is enough content for two alternating winter events.

To be clear mage farmers actually get none (snow is only visible if you damaged the mob, and the looters don't attack. Most mage farmers don't loot on their mages, it's better to have a dedicated looter). Leeching (at least uwu2) got me I think ~500/hr? I think a lot of it is actually stopper farming, so that might need the event drop rate nerf. Area boss hunting tends to be the best way to get snow in my experience, and iirc that's how the leaderboards were topped last year - lots of players area boss hunting around the clock for snow.

I’ve donated over 30k total snow this year for Diversity through my bishop and hero. It required hard work through leech selling and farming, and I believe such efforts deserves reward.

To address guilds buying snow, make snow contributions invalid when a guild member leaves, credit their total snow to their individual contribution, and calculate total contributions from active members only.

The snow purchase issue isn’t new, and punishing new active players like me is discouraging. It creates doubt about future events and makes participation less appealing. If rewards aren’t guaranteed, why put in the effort? Staff dismissing the situation and withholding rewards after an event is unprofessional, and I am sure this is not what staffs want, for implementing a flawed event, recognising own’s flawed event, and punishing fair players for their flawed event.

    it feels wrong.

I am of the opinion that we should remove the snow quest altogether in favor of a mob kill counter or point tracker, that if possible, is attributed to each guild which would eliminate the ability to sell services in one action. This would force players to stick to a guild and allow staff to determine how many points a mob is worth. Say for example, participating in PQs grants more points than mage grinding, so could bossing runs or area bosses. It'd take more development time, but potentially works better if some safeguard was put in place to prevent people from joining guilds midway to receive rewards, though contribution shouldn't be restricted. It also gets rid of so much ETC crap that no one wants to be hoarding (and/or stashed for subsequent years for a head start). The only abusable aspect of this that I can think of is that players can bring mules in bossing runs to register more points for their guild without contributing anything so maybe divide up the points per party member to encourage active recruiting for quicker runs. To reduce level/stat/class advantages, you could use the event mobs that spawn sparingly to distribute points rather than making it a kill-all counter. :)
