It might be a possible feature we'll explore in the future, if it's supported. I'm not sure whether Fishing came out before or after v83 though.
im sure fishing comes out before that, i remember i saved days pocket money to buy some fishing stuffs in CMS when in primary school(before 2008 even before pirate maybe)

I think the fishing mechanic is possible to add, but I don't know what purpose it would serve, as I'm pretty sure we don't want to implement something that lets players gain EXP while being afk on a chair...
Maybe implement the fishing medal with reduced stats and introduce a fishing leaderboard. You could also make it so that fishing would give you various potions with a chance of getting an attack/magic potion (low chance), and once you catch "x" number of fish you are awarded with an untradeable fishing chair?
Even so, you are still gaining things by just afk'ing which is quite a silly mechanic. I'd likely only be interested in this if there's a way to require the player to be doing actions, actually moving around and trying to catch fish in specific places in the pond or something.
Maybe implement a mini game when the fish is caught? Or make it so that there are "x" number of spots you can fish from, each with a unique fish, and you can only hold 1 of each, and once all unique fish are caught, you hand them in to an npc in order to exchange them for 1 point or token towards the medal/chair.
And FWIW, fishing isn't entirely well received in official maple either, probably like what Matt said - too much AFKing is required.
