I am making this post because I believe I was banned from forums from January 5th to January 8th for an unwarranted reason. Here is the link for what I said: http://i.imgur.com/pXS9Erb.png, and a friend sent me a picture of Ray the GM saying “Ziren were banned for racism”. Obviously, if you just look at my comment it would appear to be racist, however this was taken completely out of context. First of all, I am asian born in Canada and my family lives in Singapore. I play Super Smash Bros. Melee competitively and attached are links of myself which you can see in playercams (black hoodie) to back up that yes, I am indeed Chinese. Now, living in a predominantly Caucasian city in Canada where being asian is a minority, it is definitely not abnormal to deal with racism on a daily basis. If you go back to the screenshot where my “racist” comment was highlighted, and look two messages before that you see I am responding to ‘Daniel Baniel’ who said: “Yeah Ziren u next dog”. What he was responding to, was me saying “people are getting banned?” after I realized some people in chat were getting banned for spamming. This is NOT the first time I have been called a dog because I am Chinese, and so I responded “Why am I a dog? Because I’m asian?”. Attached is a thread where a fellow royals user submitted a complaint for being called a dog due to her asian ethnicity and the accused was thus banned https://royals.ms/forum/threads/offensive-racist-language.86448/#post-453344 As you can see, this is a common racial comparison used against asians and so I don’t think I am in the wrong for defending myself and my race. Obviously, I was banned for 3 days and unable to make an appeal so what is done is done. That time can’t be given back to me, nor do I expect anyone to do the impossible. However, I do know that forum bans can add up and I would like to see if it is possible to have this strike erased from my account because I believe I was banned without reason, taking into account I am Chinese and I was defending myself from what I perceived to be a racial attack. Please note that I am not accusing Danielbaniel of being racist towards me and did not bother to pursue his comment any further. I don’t blame any of the GMs for this because I know you are all working hard on the new source and sometimes things do get misinterpreted and/or taken out of context. However, being banned from forums has been very problematic because I was not able to see any forum posts/updates on the ongoing server maintenance. Also, I just don’t want this strike to be reflected on my account when I don’t believe it should have existed in the first place. Hopefully, you can see where I am coming from. Thank you for your time. tl;dr I was defending myself from a perceived racist comment directed at me due to my asian ethnicity, and was wrongfully banned for racism.
