It seems straightforward to me that the only non spam reply to a buying or selling topic is if you're buying or selling the item in question within the parameters set in the thread, if any. This includes: Not asking for items if the buyer is offering mesos. (Example: I post a thread buying Genesis 20 for 1b mesos and get someone offering to sell for four white scrolls.) With all the "offer" "no you offer" on this server, there's really no ambiguity when someone actually does set a price. Not offering other items if the buyer is asking for something specific. (Example: I post a thread buying 10 INT Dark or Blue Varr shoes and get a half dozen offers of shoes that aren't even 10 INT, much less Varr shoes.) Not posting to get a price check for the item if you have no intention of selling. (Example: my S.O. posts a thread buying Infinity 20 and gets a response from someone who's keeping it for themselves, but is curious how much it costs.) There's a price check subforum for this. If you're not doing business, you have no business in business threads. Full stop. You're wasting the time of the person trying to buy or sell. This seems to be a problem, at least whenever I'm buying, so perhaps some sort of forum slap on the wrist is called for?
Jokes aside, I completely agree. Buying/Selling on the forums is rough, anything that will make it easier will be appreciated.
The forum rules and regulations are there to limit these issues: The above are listed under the 'Breach of Forum Etiquette' section which is said to be dealt by the discretion of a responding forum moderator. Now whether or not it is the player's duty to report posts that violate the rules has remained a bit ambiguous; they should be monitored more often as this can be pretty annoying.
