Just a consideration of an old skill... Can Gaviota function similar to the other summoned birds/dragons/etc. and actually attack more than once rather than hitting once and disappearing. Granted corsairs also get the octopus skill, but that has a unique mechanic of requiring resummoning every 10 seconds to "maximize" it with its cooldown. Other than being at level 15 to get access to 4th job airstrike, there really is no real purpose for Gaviota to exist. Could we make it just not disappear immediately? It would be a very small, but very appreciated help.
can I bump this? I think it would be very useful and a much appreciated change. Currently the skill serves very little purpose at all. If they're willing to change final attack & soul arrow to update to a more usable / balanced extent, I think this small tweak could benefit everyone a lot.
well to be devils advocate, it can be summoned basically instantly with no animation, so you can sneak it into any moment you're off ship and its just free instant damage while you do other things. you ideally will summon him when youre doing your octo flips, gaviota again has no animation so he can be summoned at the same time you're laying octos. if it hovered around like octos or other summons, it would just increase sairs already top DPM dominance. he's one birb with one bomb, he's doing his best.
All very valid points. The instant summon could be adjusted if this were the case. And yeah it would increase the damage, but it is something that we could work with. It would also give 3rd job Outlaws an easier time to level
i hear many slingers/outlaws bemoan their level struggle or dmg before 4th job, but they are one of the few classes who can reliably hunt BF in third job because they can fauxjump over him, have homing beacon, and summons. no its not as fast as bombing, but get another outlaw or hermit and its good fun exp, also recommend going on pap party runs as soon as you can get exp from him. slingers and outlaws have lots of great tools and tricks, i really don't think they are lacking in that department, especially when they become so strong in 4th. perhaps if gaviota was a tiny bit stronger, it would make up for his unique summon
Cool thread idea I think Gaviota's alright, but he could definitely use some love, and this would be a cool change. I mostly only use it for farming cards off of weak mobs, or if I'm feeling particularly try-hard, I'll use it while I'm bossing to squeeze out some extra damage. A minor QoL change for Gaviota might be to make his effective range larger while he's summoned. As he is, he just hovers around a small area near where you spawned him rather than flying around the whole map, and he doesn't seem to detect enemies above him. This gets pretty annoying on vertical maps where I expect Gaviota/Octopus to OHKO mobs. In these cases, spawning Gaviota at the same time I spawn an Octopus is kind of redundant, as they KS each other if they're in the same place. If I summon him in a spot where there aren't many enemies, I just have to wait for the cooldown to pop so that I can re-summon him somewhere useful. If Gaviota were to get re-worked the way you suggested @JJUSA, maybe it'd be cool to replace Airstrike in 4th Job with a Gaviota upgrade skill that makes him a more powerful, permanent summon. I think it'd be more useful, more fun, and more thematically fitting. Despite corsair's Krexel DPS, it's hard (at least for me) to stay on the ship very long in boss fights, or even on some high level maps. A permanent summon could help round out shipless damage a bit. Maybe upgraded Gaviota could disappear once you board your ship or something?
Exactly what i want to say. Also this change might brings a negative effect to server which is summon farming , one will only needs a 3rd job Outlaw to gain access for summon farming comparing to other classes that have AOE summoning skills only at 4th job. Tbh Gaviota is fine now, it has 0 cast delay and i do summon it every 5 seconds which gives me millions more damage in bossing. ——————————————- Out topic recommendations: Aerial strike is somehow useless in bossing run I use it only when clearing wyverns in HT but it only hit 6 targets, ‘stun’ you for 1sec and 5seconds of cooldown while horntail spawns 5 or 6 wyverns in main body, 1 cast aerial strike couldn’t clear all wyverns (it targets HT prior). I know it isn’t my responsibility to clear them but when a bishop die in HT run I believe not many willing to clear them and it can annoys the range classes a lot if they fly toward them. Just a suggestion, is it possible to increase the number of monster hit since it is quite similar to roar (not the dmg) maybe increase it to 8 targets is fine. Also the Octopi hit-box at Horntail Head A and B is weird , when wing is up octopi doesn’t atk anything sometimes, even when wing is down Octopi still sometimes doesn’t atk Head A but it only starts to atk in some specific positions (centre of top platform) or Jump. I hope this can be fixed. Summons octopi while remounting rather than casting 5 shots of rapid fire has more dps . Maxed wrath of octopi can do an average of 300k dmg in 40secs which is a lot more dps than casting rapid fire while remounting. I think the dmg of octopi is fine too. Do give it a try~
Ah interesting, I hadn't thought about the total damage dealt over 40s, just looking at the line I get. How much DEX does 350k damage per octopus take?
Opps sorry its a typo , it is 300k avg instead. I have 1213 Dex with Mw20 and my octopi hits up to 15.xk max . An 40 sec octopi hits 26 times in its lifetime . So i did a roughly calculation which is 12k*26. Octopi doesn’t stop to atk as long as you are within the range.
also keep in mind most people never max gaviota, just get it to 15, it has 30 levels. [from hiddenstreet] Level 15: MP -15; Basic attack 330, for 20 seconds Level 30: MP -20; Basic attack 450, for 30 seconds.
Yeah I agree it would be better for balance, but removing Airstrike completely might be a bit extreme... I think it could be better with a "tiny" buff, such as maybe reducing the cooldown of gaviota to something a bit more usable like 1-2 seconds... rather than a long-term summon? may not make it much more DPS for bossing, but may make it more usable at 3rd job when mobbing Just an idea for discussion.
Buffing Gaviota's cooldown is an interesting thought, but it's also a bit complicated, because he doesn't instantly attack when summoned. First he has to lock onto a nearby enemy within his effective range, then he has to actually perform the attack, and that takes time. If the cooldown is lower than the time it takes for Gaviota to attack, that might not be great, because inexperienced players might accidentally interrupt bird bro before he can do his thing. On the other hand, it gives you some more control (e.g. if you put him in a bad position, you can re-locate him without as much of a penalty) and can somewhat raise the skill ceiling on corsairs (e.g. you have to be responsible for perfectly spacing your uses of Gaviota). For the sake of discussion, let's assume that as soon as he's summoned, it takes Gaviota 2.0s to lock onto an enemy and deal damage to it. G = 1 metric Gaviota summon. 5.0s cooldown --> 12 G/min --> 1x dpm 4.5s cooldown --> 13.33 G/min --> 1.11x dpm 4.0s cooldown --> 15 G/min --> 1.25x dpm 3.5s cooldown --> 17.14 G/min --> 1.43x dpm 3.0s cooldown --> 20 G/min --> 1.66x dpm 2.5s cooldown --> 24 G/min --> 2x dpm 2.0s cooldown --> 30 G/min --> 2.5x dpm Here, you can see that decreasing Gaviota's cooldown exponentially increases his damage dealt. Again, assuming that it takes 2.0s minimum for him to do his thing, you could never buff Gaviota to more than 2.5x his current damage by changing his cooldown. That said, you could decrease it further and get more summons per minute, but at that point, using Gaviota on cooldown would just cancel out the summons before they can attack, rendering the skill useless. Does anyone happen to know the minimum amount of time it takes for Gaviota to spawn, lock onto a target and do damage?
Moving to closed, as there are considerations about this already in the most recent discussion on skill changes. https://royals.ms/forum/threads/feedback-request-skill-changes-and-balancing.205730/
