Hey there I'm a dragon knight currently lvl 84.
I want to get some good bossing gear but I'm not funded so I'm going slow and steady. I have some questions

Question 1 i'm curious if there's stuff I can make reasonably by farming or if I should just stick to grinding and making money to buy?

Question 2 I need some help to get the most bang for my buck. In other words what year should I focus on acquiring first?

Here's a list of my current gear:
    Helmet:
Clean zhelm 14/16/15/15 (thinking get scar next as it's 65-80m and I'm lvl 84)

    Face:
    Sad mask 11acc
(Going to start having at shows more to get leaf)

    Eye:
Racc mask for washing 5int 2acc
(Slowly doing lpq for glasses. I hear spectrum goggles are best but idk what stat range to look for)

    Earring:
    Single 10dex

    Cape:
    Old raggedy 4dex 10 avoid

    Top:
    Blue shouldermail 21str 5dex

    Bottom:
    Brown jangoon pants 18 dex 3accuracy 4speed

    Gloves:
    11att wg

    Pendant: clean dep star

Shoes: 7str 9 dex 1jump 9 speed mithril holding boots

    Weapons:

    Current: maple Karsten 9str 99watt 38acc
Also have: sky ski clean 93watt 11 acc

Thanks in advance for any advice :3 looking forward to soloing Zak >=3

This is more of a question for you, what do you enjoy? Meso making is a function of what you can consistently do along side how long you can do it for. A lot of players make Bishops to sell leech, farm maps, and even boss with them to make early game funds for their attacking class, its good money making but its not for everybody.

If this is not something you're interested in, there's maps you can train on and farm meso through your levels. Good examples of these would be:
    1. Coolie/miner Zombies, however, you're past this level
    2. Dreamy ghosts (earring dex @ 1.5m ea) - Good exp when you train with a priest
    3. Temple of Time mobs (earring str 60%, helmet int 60%)
    4. Neo Tokyo mobs (Silver coins, face avoid 60%)
All the above also have good equips drops as well as ETCs like steel/black/mith ore

Another amazing way to make starting meso is APQ. This party quest requires you to be married which costs NX but you can find someone to split the difference with you to marry eachother and gain access to this PQ. You can do this PQ four times a day and find groups through smegas or guilds. I would highly recommend getting married and finding a group that does this PQ daily, you can find yourself making ~25-75m a day just from this PQ.

You're gear is actually pretty good, there are a few things you can work towards that are pretty achievable assuming you're voting each day and earning some meso. I would do the following:
    1. Work on an attack set: Gloves, cape, shoes. I'd get 15 attack Stormcaster glove (~800M), 4-6 attack cape (~500m), shoes should be further down the line but you can reasonably get 5-7 attack shoes for under ~2b. These gears you upgrade as you go, people usually save up for 1 attack upgrades and add their cape + mesos to trade.
    2. Scroll your Zakum helmet with dex, this is probably one you're not going to keep so you honestly can use 100%s for the extra accuracy from the dex, this should cost like ~10m
    3. Saving up for a good weapon is probably the most bang for your buck, its usually the cheapest DPS upgrade you can make assuming you have a decent attack set
If you have the ability to use or level another character, I would highly advise it. Warriors are in demand for CWKPQ which is great for money making and can help you achieve these goals, you would need some levels behind you though. Assuming you get to CWKPQ, you also get access to a new pendant (MoN) which will be a nice upgrade from a Deputy Star.

Ellin Forest questline also gives you access to the EPQ, which gives you a 1 weapon attack ring + ability to make Glittering Altair Earrings (+2 all stat, 7 slot). The PQ itself is great exp, its just hard to find a group that stays long enough.

The Ellin Forest questline also gives you two boss dailies: Chao & Ephenia. These use to be pretty good for daily NX but they got nerfed down a bit

I probably missed some stuff but this is mostly what I did when I first started :)

Appreciate the reply. I have 2 bishops and a cpq1 mule but leeching is really on and off and as much of a noliger as I am I don't have the patience to wait for buyers. Selling leech isn't what it used to be and the price wall to ulu2/skeles is steep. Current plan is to heal farm teeth for mesos as they seem to be in decent demand and cost no money with decent NPC rate. And possibly grinding ulu2 at 9x on dk :0 I've never bossed before and drk was cheapest to wash so that was my main goal with it. As PQs have all been nerfed now to not use skills its just bossing and grind with pals now for me. But trying HT, trying cwpq, and soloing Zak are my big 3 right now. As for APQ. I have enough characters to marry myself a few times but I've been hoping to find a active player in my time zone to marry l, so far no messages from my smegas. Fingers crossed though

Definitely scroll your zhelm with DEX or accuracy, you can worry about getting a better helmet later. You will eventually want a spear to train with/boss. Look to get a pyrope spear so you get a balance of speed, weapon attack, and accuracy. You can upgrade to a pinaka (at level 100 if you have no issues with accuracy, but be warned it's slow) or a scrolled sky ski (better than pinaka when bossing due to raw speed which scales better as you level up, get more weapon attack, and use attack potions) Focus on getting some attack gear next by getting a cape with a couple weapon attack on it, whatever your budget will allow you to, but raw weapon attack will go a long way. You can also look to upgrade your glove as your budget allows it. Nerd's post covers what you want as your starting attack set of gloves, cape, shoes (in that order because it goes from most cost effective to least). Have fun with the game first, since you are doing great so far. :D

Helmet: As mentioned above. I think this is a high priority thing to do unless you are loaded with accuracy.

Face: Keep as is, I wouldn't recommend gacha at showa for a leaf quite yet. Spend your nx on shrine or APR to sell to fund your other equips. Low Priority

Eye: Finish your lpq stuff or buy 2 STR / 1-2 DEX clean goggles (key is to not spend so much money on accessories yet since they give you less value over raw weapon attack at this stage). You can sell the goggles later and buy one with a lot of STR only (this purchase will probably come by much later) for not too much since you will only need STR as a DrK and STR is much cheaper on goggles compared to DEX. Low Priority

Earring: Keep for now, eventually you will want to swap for a STR earring but that depends on when you have enough accuracy to hit everything relevant (I think 160 accuracy is around there? That's enough to Horntail). Earring is cost ineffective to upgrade so put this at low priority

Cape: You could look to buy 5-7 watt blackfist cloak with no slots if you can find one at a reasonable price that fits your budget. Keygoal: 5-7 watt cape by 135 (These are in the couple hundred mil range, just a long term goal to look forward to by the time you are 135+) High Priority

Top: Excellent top, stick with this, think this will serve you even after you get to the stage where you are bossing. Don't Need to Change

Bottom: Excellent bottom as well, same as top, stick with it for as long as you can. Don't Need to Change

Gloves: Look to upgrade whenever you can afford to. One of your key goals to hit by level 135 will be to be able to afford a 15 watt SCG (800 mil I think, but very well worth it as it's an important milestone to getting a basic bossing gear set). High Priority

Pendant: Keep, I recommend buying an HTP when you have enough hp with HB (not sure how your progression with HP washing is coming along, but DrK doesn't need more than 40 total INT to hit 18k hp by 135, if you haven't hit this total amount either by pumping into INT or some int gear, I would recommend doing so as soon as possible so you start bossing at your maximum potential at 135). You will probably need someone to help you kill manon if you get one before 4th job. Mark of Naricain is better on warrior, but I would not recommend gambling with trying to get one with decent weapon attack yet. 180 mil service for HTP, well worth the meso. Medium Priority

Shoes: Decent shoes, keep them until you can go for facestompers or red sock with weapon attack, but shoes are the most expensive items when it comes to weapon attack gear so put this towards the bottom of your list. Keygoal: Eventually get 5+ wa shoes, but you can even delay this after 135 because they're just so so expensive relative to everything else you can upgrade (I think 600-800 mil for 5 wa shoes? Relatively expensive for amount of weapon attack) Low Priority, but priority will increase as you level up

Weapon: Good weapon for now since polearm training is very good at your level, but you will want to get a spear eventually to boss and train with. Go with pyrope spear if you want a balanced approach to weapon attack, speed, and accuracy, bit pricey as pyrope spears are rare, BUT anniversary event is coming up very soon so chances are you can get one much easier. Pinaka (level 100) is the most budget friendly option as it has relatively high attack, but it is much slower and has no accuracy. Sky ski is a lot like pyrope spear since it has everything you want as a DrK in weapon attack, speed, and accuracy but with a shift from accuracy to weapon attack. Bit pricey since they are gacha only, but well worth it! I don't know any key benchmarks for stats and prices for these, but getting a good bossing weapon is very cost effective. Max Priority

I too started out with a DrK and never had a mage until I was lv170+.
It will be hard to make money at level 84 aside from gacha-ing and getting lucky.

During my lower levels I would earn solely through gacha and guild PQ to get Ninja Storm 30 and Assassinate 30 skill books.
I was fortunate to be playing when there was no limit on APQ, so naturally that was my main source of income.
Once I hit lv120, I farmed in Temple of Time Memory Lane 5 for Helmet INT 60% at which one point I sold 5 stacks at once after 2 weeks of farming.
2 weeks of farming quickly got me to lv150+ without bossing at all.

I'd also occasionally Dodo hunt and do papulatus for more NX to gacha.
As I progressed to higher levels I was able to hunt more area bosses for NX to gacha.

Long story short, farm NX, gacha and make money. Shouldn't be a problem since you're going slow and steady.

Generally the best wa to price ratio is in this order:
    Weapon > Gloves > Cape > Shoes

For your comparison if let's say you spend 1b on different types of gear, you can get the following gears.

    Weapon:
116 att ski (23 wa upgrade from 93 att ski)

    Gloves:
15 wa scg (4 wa upgrade from 11 wa wg)

    Cape:
8 wa bfc (8 wa upgrade from no wa)

    Shoe:
5 wa fs (5 wa upgrade from no wa)

From the looks of it, getting a ski should be your focus for now as it provides you a 23 wa boost, followed by a cape, then a shoe, then gloves.

    Helm:
Right now you don't need to spend that kind of money on a scarga helm as it only provides an average of 2 ~ 3 stats more than a zhelm.
Just scroll your current zhelm with Helm Dex 60% and try to get it above 30 Dex and you're good.

    Top & Bottom:
Your top and bottom seems pretty good until bossing levels for now, and should be the next priority after each of your gears costs at least 1b.
It does not make much sense to be spending money on stat gears (STR/DEX) at this point yet.

    Face:
You're right about that. Get a STR leaf.

    Eye:
Stick to the LPQ glasses for a good amount of time. 5 STR is approximate 1 wa, and a 10 str spectrum goggles is roughly 3b.
Spectrum goggles should be endgame and the least of your concern for a long time.

    Earrings:
You can buy 10 STR earrings, but it might remove 8 accuracy off you since 1 dex = 0.8 accuracy.
Do this when you're at higher levels and have no problems with accuracy.

    Pendant:
You wanna wait till you're level 140 for the Mark of Naricain at a service of 100m.
You can buy a HTP service for 200m at lv120, but why spend that kind of money.
    For DrKs,
Godly MoN > Godly HTP > Average MoN > Average HTP.
    Prioritize an Average MoN.

You can solo zak at level 135 of course. The real question is how patient are you? Hehe.

EDIT: Forgot to mention. I did trio APQ back in 2016 for a full month and was my main source of income, not gach.

Thank you so much for this super in depth answer. I saw a video on royals from a while back saying because of defence HTP is better for toad then MON. Is it that big of a difference? Should I just skip htp all together?

    Happy to help <3

While it is true that HTP has higher defense, I've never used HTP at all and have no problems at toad once I got used to it.
The thing is you can only get your EXP share from toad at lv175, so if you want to use HTP for toad, I assure you, you can get a free one by then since HT is lv155 and above.
I've got 603 Weapon Def and 474 Magic Def at the moment, and toad doesn't seem to hit any higher than 12.5k
I autopot Reindeer Milk, and manual pot Cheese and Ice Cream Pop to maintain anywhere more than 13k HP.
