I'm not sure if it's because I'm in England but I don't see/get to join many GM Event's. Within the guide it says there are daily events (I appreciate staff changes can slow things down at the beginning and to be honest daily seems like quite a lot anyway) But I was wondering if there was any way of planning these and putting a Schedule with the times on the Forum. Just so that we can either catch it while we're online, or plan to log in to join in. I'd happily either help with ideas(as I used to help run them in an old pserver and do incentives/events within my current job) or have this opened up to player suggestions? Just thought I'd suggest it, ty
Pretty sure most of their time, lately, has gone towards refunding lost items and dealing with bull-isht reports.
We try to have daily events, but due to the staff changes, staff members being out of town, and many people being busy, they haven't been as frequent recently. Once everything settled down we'll return to doing more regular events.
Completely appreciate the staff changes will have made it difficult, however if there is anyway of possibly planning them and letting us know in advance when they might be in future, as someone who lives in a different time zone to most I'd really appreciate it so I can join in Thanks for reply ^^
You're actually in the same or similar time zone as four if our GMs. As far as scheduling events, we don't even have specific schedules to be on. We're usually just on when time permits, and when we're on there are various other things that could keep us from hosting an event. I agree that it'd be nice for events to be scheduled, but I don't think it's all that feasible.
Oh well the fact I'm not too alone is comforting, ty Hopefully one day maybe we could have scheduled Events or maybe someone hired for this kind of position, until then I'll look out for them.
i miss them quite often as well. i always see screens of people before and after events. when i look at the time posted i only assume they happen when im getting my 7.5 hours of sleep in. events for multiple time zones would be cool. might be hard for my timezone which is when the server seems most populated, i only mention that because when there is an event everyone gets a mass d/c from like 150+ people trying to get in. cant recount how many times ive gotten d.c and wasnt able to get a warp back/log back in on time. it kinda sucks because the daily events are what kept me here when i first joined. back when marty was hosting like 2 events per day. hope to see more once things get settled
I should point out that back when I was a GM, the average people online would be 80-140, so the highest amount of people that would ever join an event would be 50-60. That's easily manageable (for a decent event host(ess)) alone. With 100+ people participating, not only the server is having trouble, but try controlling over a hundred people as a GM. It might seem easy, but it's not. If you're too controlling, people will complain. If you're not being strict enough, people will complain. If it all takes too long, people will complain. See my point? Not to mention that with less people online, there's less ~gm's... And that I was simply very active back then and had time on my hands to get rid of (and still do, thus my community events), and that I simply liked hosting events.
excellent points. never really thought about the trolling/skill spam/w.e else that happens before events start. sucks being one of the few who sit there waiting for the event to start while others dick about delaying time even more. i probs sounds like an ass for saying that since the events are supposed to be about fun and getting away from the grind or w.e.. honestly i find the joy in the event itself; not a huge gathering of people that can take place anywhere at any time. nonetheless i hope we can have more events in the near future.
Forum Event's are also fun, when I first joined I was so excited to see the 'Design a Banner' thread until I realised how old it was. I would love to see more off game event's like this where you can actually do things to help the server and win prizes
I'm also from England, and it seems that events tend to happen around 11pm - 1am local time (which happens to also be server time) probably due to the gm's who tend to hold events being active at that time. ___________________________________________________________ SgtYellow - Lv.125 Shadower <3 Nipple
Either new commands should be made for events involving timers, or they shouldn't be used at all anymore. I just get kicked from the Russian Roulette hosted by Ashlee as she stunned the map with 3 seconds (20% of the total time!) left. Because I had a lag, my reaction was slow, and resulted me in being on the floor because I fell of the ladder. I still had enough time to make it to the middle platform (on the X-side in the OX quiz map). And, I think a pre-writting script to explain the events is also needed. She hid, and suddenly hell unleashed with everyone moving around randomly, with very little instructions given this might be a major problem for new players.
She did explain the whole event, i guess somehow you got there late and missed the explination? Even though before she started explaining she closed the event. Very weird.
It was my first time doing that event, and must say that here instructions where crystal clear for me. Don't know what else Ashlee could have said. Also the time when I was stunned my counter had already reached 0.
She did indeed explain the whole event, but started totally random. It's easy to miss the clock if you have some tabs open, and by the time you realise it started, you're too late already. Given that the stun came 3 seconds early... 15 seconds is a bit of a fast start. But I think you're both missing the main point which is to eliminate as much variables as possible. Having commands do the time related actions such as stun removes variable of lag. Also noone can argue about stuns being too early, too late, whatnot. Having a script removes the variable of mistake in explaining the event. As you know what to say, what to do, it gives a more streamlined experience through all the events. Not saying that they should copy paste the entire wall of text, just having a guide with all traps would be handy.
I wasn't at the event but based on what was stated here, there was no confusion or variables that made explanation of the event confusing. Additionally, if you're participating in an event, I think you would be paying attention to the event, not other tabs. This is how more often than not, people miss important information about the event and then get upset when the GM running the event did not do it the same way another GM did the event. The events are usually pretty similar in nature but are not always exactly the same nor should they have to be since that uniqueness is what makes things such as events just a tad more exciting.
I wanted to wait for the event to close before I started giving instruction to avoid having to repeat myself. I also enjoy gifting the time and chat before an event starts to the players; oh the most irrelevant things I hear always puts a smile on face! I'm sure others are smiling right there with me too!
