If you care about partying more - be a Dark Knight, simply because of their Hyper Body.
If you care about damage more, and simplicity - be a Hero, they only use the Orbs system, instead of a Dark Knight's Berserk which requires attention to your HP.

I would break it down based on how you want to play. How do you normally play games that give you options like this? Do you:

    - Want to murder the fuck out of one enemy?
    I would play:
    - Paladin
    - Hero
    - Bowman
    - Pirate
    - Thieves
    - Or kill a lot of enemies at once?
    I would play:
    - DK
    - Crossbowman (pierce is great but you get it late)
    - Mages
    - Maybe you just want to move real fast?!
    I would play:
    - Not warrior
    - Mages
    - Thieves
    - For real, no warriors. They walk so slow.
Write down your wants and the answer should be clear in no time. Don't worry about class intricacies like Berserk for DK right now. There will come a time to learn things like that no matter which character you pick. That's part of the fun!

As we all know, though, playing a funded character is funner than a not funded one. If you want to get a character that's easy make money with first, and then move onto the character you really want to play, I would start with a mage.

Any variation will do, but cleric gives you the added benefit of Holy Symbol (+ %EXP skill that third job clerics get). As you can imagine, it's highly sought after. They can also make great money at places like Coolie Zombies, Wraiths and Chornos before you really have any gear or money. The drawback is they are stupid expensive at higher levels (120+)~mesos

    Hope that all helps ^_^'
